Well, in defense of the family ettiquette cop (your mother, it seems), because I never would have gotten through my family without my mom keeping me on track, I think the intent is to let everyone share something that doesn't cost money instead of gifts...

And the recipient isn't demanding it from what I can tell, your mother is, so she can be proud of your participation in it when the family gets together... This is her sibling's child, right? - A sister's child perhaps? - She wants you to look good so she looks good... Just like you would wish Matthew would make you look good.

Moms are there to nag you about family responsibilities! That is their whole raison d'etre!

Hello, folks. Just back from choir practice. It went well - I'm finally getting the hang of some of the parts so it's actually FUN!

I stopped at the liquor store on the way home. I've been in there exactly once before, with a friend who was buying cigarettes, and like I said before, I buy alcohol MAYBE a couple of times a year...but after the way I was treated last night, I had the overwhelming urge to buy something...ANYTHING. I picked up some hard cider, which is actually really good! Comes in cute little bottles, too. I'm having one now...the other five bottles will probably go to the brother who got me into the mess in the first place. ;-)

I watched the trailer - finally. WHOAAAAA! It is INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to see more of Eomer and Eowyn, especially. Does sound like they play up the whole Aragorn / Arwen thing a bit, but that may be just the trailer - in other words, I wouldn't be surprised if what we've seen is about all there is in the movie.

Edited - Moms are there to nag you about what they see as your responsibilties, period, regardless of what those responsibilities actually are.

Do you have a brand of tea you recommend?

Let's see....I use Lipton's for iced tea, and Twinings or Bigelow (different types.) I have some Teekanne Pompadour chamomile that I haven't tried yet. I use catnip, lemon balm, and peppermint that I grow in teas sometimes.

Well, the Arwen/Aragorn thing doesn't bother me in the least, because the relationship was there, it just was only talked about in the appendix, and I think it adds to the story to have the love story happen I did care a twittle about the queen from the books, and I think it is OK to think his love would be important.

You are right that we have probably seen most of it. She does have to show up at some point with his his family banners and the sword... Who brought him the "king stuff" in TTT? - Or perhaps into RoTK? Was it her? - or someone else? and reminded him of the Paths of the Dead? Looks like I need to re-read my book.

Interesting to me, anyway, is that Aragorn is still carrying his sword from FoTR at Helms Deep.... maybe they will delay the sword until RoTK...

Well...the books hint at Arwen a lot, but rarely mention her outright. Re-reading the books after reading the appendix, there are several times when Aragorn is remembering her or where she is vaguely mentioned, but it isn't really clear why he's acting the way he is. I'm thinking of a part in Lothlorien, for one...but I don't have the books and can't check.

It also clarifies why he's almost cold towards Eowyn...that would be confusing if Arwen's relationship with him wasn't made clear.

Is it getting near Christmas time again??

Christmas starts in September for us. The first year my wife and I did the show, we bought an artificial tree. Otherwise, we don't get a tree up until around the 20th...

You don't want your son to grow up to be a steely-eyed killer...indifferent to pain and hardship?...

That I wouldn't mind, as long as he didn't give up showers...

OR you could try some nice decaf Earl Grey!

Of course a nice glass of Merlot usually does it for me...
