Just last night, my boys (age 6 and 3) made pumpkin pies. The six year old measured out all the ingredients himself after reading the recipe. The three year old cracked open the eggs, got them in the bowl (with only one piece of eggshell!) and mixed them up with a fork. Then, as the six year old stirred, the three year old added the eggs and the condensed milk. The six year old poured the mixture into the two pie shells and I placed them in the oven. The boys literally did the entire procedure with only supervision on my part. They were so proud of themselves!

I'll spend most of the time teaching my 11 yr. old son. My daughter actually learned a couple of weeks ago when she baked some Pumpkin Bread for a Thanksgiving breakfast at our Parish. She had to do it by herself for a Girl Scout Cooking Badge. She was proud and helped demolish the extra loaf she baked for us!
