Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa requests pause on Elon Musk’s potential purchase of Boca Chica State Park

Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa told reporters Thursday that she had requested a postponement of any action on the potential sale of Boca Chica State Park to Elon Musk’s SpaceX until after she takes office in January.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission was slated to discuss the possible sale of the state park to SpaceX on Thursday. Texas Monthly first reported on the proposed deal last month. However, the agenda item was removed at Hinojosa’s request, she said.

“It’s such an important resource,” Hinojosa said of the state park. “The Valley is so important to me as the place I am from, and I will never forget it.”

According to Texas Monthly, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is considering selling about 1,300 acres of Boca Chica State Park in Cameron County to SpaceX so Musk can expand his adjacent Starbase rocket facility.

Word of the possible sale sparked outrage among environmentalists. With Hinojosa now poised to take power in January, many of Musk’s plans for the Lone Star State appear to hang in the balance.

What is wrong with this issue? The governor-elect won’t be seated in the new position until January 2027 but she is already making “requests” as though she already has government authority??

“The Valley is so important to me as the place I am from, and I will never forget it.”

"All those jobs created by the base expansion are nothing compared to the importance of protecting the delicate natural environment for the Nurovian leaping lemurs. Besides, all those getting jobs by the base expansion would no longer be dependent on the government and that would be a huge tragedy to be laid at the feet of DONALD TRUMP!"

One mistake conservatives often make is to confuse the formal organizational chart with the real world version.

In the real world getting elected means you have real power—in this case the governor elect can fire anybody she does not like in two months.

That is what real power looks like.

(Btw—having Antifa rioters covering your back is also real power. It is not shown on any organizational chart either.)

I don’t think Tesla and Space X can just pick up and move. Musk has invested billions, I think more than $25 billion, in Tesla and Space X in the past five years.

I think that she is looking for an envelope of cash to help her make a decision.

If I recall correctly Spamberger asked Youngkin to postpone some decisions until she was inaugurated as governor of Virginia. Youngkin said no; he was still governor. I miss a good Virginia governor!

Abbott is a squish with an inner rino trying to get out. I’ll bet he will not fast track the sale.
