Jerry Koosman, the legendary Mets southpaw who helped lead the franchise to its first World Series title in 1969, died Sunday morning, the team said.
He was 83 years old.
Koosman was battling multiple illnesses, according to Jay Horwitz.
He was surrounded by family in Osceola, Wis.
Koosman was the winning pitcher in Game 2 of the 1969 World Series after the Orioles took Game 1, and he also won the Game 5 clincher.

"Former Mets player Jerry Koosman attends a pre-game ceremony to retire his number 36 at Citi Field on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021."
The Miracle Mets were indeed a fantastic story
He could bring it.
Legend... RIP, LGM
RIP Koos...
Just another sling in what’s been a disastrous year for the orange and blue
Terrific pitcher. He was one of the big-name players when I first got interested in MLB as a child.
He was good, but not as good as Tom Seaver and Jon Matlack in what was once a solid rotation. For some reason they traded away Seaver for Steve Henderson and some day old bread. I don’t even remember who they traded Matlack for, maybe Willie “Hot Dog” Montanez?
Very underrated pitcher (becasuae he pitched behind Seaver.)
