Gov. Kathy Hochul was ranked the worst state leader in the US for protecting constituents’ freedoms, a scathing new study found.
Hochul ranked No. 50 in the Cato Institute’s 2026 “Freedom in the 50 States” list, scoring an “F” and falling behind the governors from Hawaii, California, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
The annual study weighed the freedom of various state economic and personal policies — such as fiscal, housing, occupational, education, firearms, speech and medical — and graded each state a percentage out of 100 for how its local laws promoted freedoms for each.
This year’s study was the first to grade individual governors, and graded how their actions in office furthered or hampered their state’s freedoms.
Hochul scored a dismal 18.02% for how her policies promoted New Yorkers’ freedoms.
New York state, meanwhile, ranked 49th in the nation for overall freedoms with a 31.9% score — coming in just ahead of Hawaii at 29.24%.
Although the top and bottom of the gubernatorial freedom rankings largely skewed by party line, the results weren’t so red and blue.

She’s only able to do the things she does through the complicity of the RAT controlled NY State Legislature. RATS have a more than 2 to 1 ratio in both Houses.
There’s a lot of competition among governors in the race to the bottom. It’s quite an ‘accomplishment’ if Hochul has won that race.

Kathy Hochul the worst? That is only because Xavier Becerra has not yet been elected governor of California. But JB Pritzker is definitely in the running for “worst Governor ever”.
What NewSCUM did to California is 100 times worst than anything that b*tch Hochel did. NewSCUM and Bass worked side by side to burn Pacific Palisades to the ground for his “Reimagine” project..turning it into a low income housing rathole so they could both claim credit for getting the homeless off the streets.

Hochul is actually a very bad governor.
Wait until those anti-“fossil fuel” burning policies she’s legislating take hold with New Yorkers freezing in the winter when the power goes out from storms and overloads and they can’t use gas or oil to keep them warm. Then there will be the crazy electric bills when they do have power…
They’ll just blame Trump. They do not use logic.
I don't know if there is any measurement of a successful governor in the State of New York.
New York State is a failed relic of a bygone era. They've been losing Congressional seats for decades and would lose even more if not for illegal aliens that the statists welcome in under the "sanctuary city" and "sanctuary state" programs.

Arizona topped the list — not because of soon-to-be (hopefully) ex-governor Kati Hobbs, but in spite of her.
Mamdani is banning horse-drawn carriages in NYC. If Kathy loses the governorship, she won’t be able to back to her old job pulling one.
But she will probably get reelected.
