Federal prosecutors have identified Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in a court filing as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi," listing the name the Minnesota Democrat uses publicly as an alias.
The name renews scrutiny of long-running claims about her past marriage.
The filing, submitted Wednesday in Washington's federal court by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office, refers to her as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar."
It asks a judge to keep a search warrant for Omar's home sealed until agents finish executing it, after The New York Times and other outlets sought its release.
Fox News Digital first reported, citing two sources, that Omar is not her birth name. A source familiar with the investigation told the New York Post that Elmi is her original surname.
A spokesperson for Omar told Fox, "Ilhan Omar is her real name." Her office and her lawyers did not respond to the Post's requests for comment.
She has not been charged with a crime.
Asked about the filing, Attorney General Todd Blanche told the Post he did not believe prosecutors "would make up names."
Elmi is also the surname of Omar's former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, whom she married in 2009 and divorced in 2017.
Critics have alleged for years, without proof, that he is her brother. In 2016, Omar called that suggestion "absurd and offensive."
Asked on MS NOW this week whether she was related to him, Omar answered, "Not to my knowledge."
President Donald Trump seized on the response Thursday.
"That tells you a lot right there," he said.

In a movie Ilhan could be cornered, her phony sweet smile turning to a vicious scowl, her hands pulling off false pieces of prosthetic makeup appliances of gelatin, foam latex, silicone, and cold foam from her face in strips, revealing underneath that she actually IS her brother. And then she leaps at the federal agent, trying to tear his head off.
