It seems hypocritical, but it makes perfect sense. In their mind they own everything, so Elon is misbehaving and selfish.

World War II ended 80 years ago - it's time to move on. Let EU ingrates defend themselves. Eff 'em AND eff the liberal 'elites' in the US they pay off with in kind buttering up.
The slowdown affected the US/NATO Missile Defense network too, which predates Muskie’s goodies, and is independent from them.
There are really only two possibilities:

The systems have been hacked, and absolutely no one wants to let THAT become public.

This occurs when only bureaucrats rule a country. Bureaucrats create nothing except more bureaucracy and rules to be enforced. They punish the entrepreneurs, creators, leaders! They think what they do is the most important thing in the country!
