Ron Duguay, a 12-year NHL veteran most famous for his paparazzi-and-celebrity-filled time as a Ranger, died on Thursday after a battle with colon cancer, according to his girlfriend Sarah Palin. He was 69.
Drafted 13th overall by the Blueshirts in 1977, Duguay was a speedy and skillful offensive-minded forward whose feathered curls made him easily identifiable on the ice.
His six seasons in New York were highlighted by a run to the 1979 Stanley Cup Final, where the Rangers lost to the Montreal Canadiens in five games. Over 499 games with the Rangers, Duguay finished with 164 goals and 176 assists for 340 points.
To this day, Duguay is still tied for the franchise record for the fastest goal scored from the start of the game, having netted one just nine seconds into a matchup against the Flyers on April, 6, 1980.

That sucks.
When I was in High School, USA Network carried all the Rangers games, so I became a Rangers fan at that time.
oh-la-la sassoon...
old time Rangers fan here going back tot he days of Eddie Giacomin...Dugger was a great part of that team that made the cup finals in the late 70’s
Sad. Condolences to family and friends of Ron Duguay. R.I.P., sir.
Did not know he was dating Sarah.
I was a Bruins fan, and even though Ron Duguay put the stake through our hearts in many games, I still liked him.
I always wished the Bruins could have acquired him. I recall he played our type of hard-edged hockey. I do recall that he, like Rick Middleton, declined to wear a helmet after many players did, and with his long hair, it made the picture complete. The Bruins, for so many years, lived off of their forechecking, and IIRC, Duguay was a superb forechecker.
Well, him and Don Cherry will be having long conversations in the afterlife, for sure...may he RIP.
I remember that also. USA Network had that guy announcing....SHOOOOOOOOTING! Great memories.
Apparently so.
Don Cherry is still with us at a youthful 92.
Duguay dated anyone he wanted to date...
that last picture at the article is very sad and tough to look at...
We also got WOR on Cable, so we also got all the Islanders games.
“...according to his girlfriend Sarah Palin.”
THE Sarah Palin or a knockoff?
Back in the old days at the Spectrum we used to all scream “Ooh La La” every time he touched the puck
THE Sarah Palin, they have been a couple since at least 2022.
Grapes, one of the good Canadiens.
Arggh! I thought he had passed on a few years back! Well. That is grand to hear.
LOL, have you ever seen the Don Cherry Story?
If you have never seen it, as a hockey fan, it is WELL worth watching! Old Time Hockey!
It is brilliantly done-and it shows just how crazy Eddie Shore was! He was legendary for his eccentric behavior both as a player and a minor league coach, and the scene linked to below is hilarious!

If you love old time hockey...you gotta watch "Keep Your Head Up Kid-The Don Cherry Story". It is in two parts.
As a former goalie, I was particularly tickled by the famous story of how Eddie Shore tried to break a goalie from his bad habit of going to his knees anytime someone shot a puck at him, and tied a short rope to the crossbar of the net, and the other end of that short rope was tied around the goalie's neck.
Another team that was competing against Shore's team got off their bus and entered the rink and watched in amazement as this goalie repeatedly strangled himself while Eddie Shore fired pucks at him! Another
