NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A Jonesboro, Georgia, woman has been arrested in connection with a phone scam in which a caller allegedly posed as a police officer and convinced a victim to send money for bail, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Police said a woman reported on Dec. 4, 2025, that she had been scammed several days earlier. The victim told investigators that on Nov. 30, while she was at a pharmacy, she received a phone call from someone identifying himself as “Sgt. Daniels” with the Charleston County Detention Center.
The caller allegedly told the woman that her son was in jail for marijuana possession and requested $850 in bail money. Police said the victim, believing the call was legitimate, was instructed to send the money through Zelle to a purported bail bondsman in Greenville.
Investigators said the payment was made using a Georgia phone number associated with the name Kadrain Mitchell. Police said the woman later learned from her son that the call was fraudulent.
After what police described as a lengthy investigation, Mitchell, 35, surrendered to detectives at North Charleston City Hall on Monday.
She was charged with breach of trust and impersonating a police officer.

Just about every week, the weekly paper in my small hometown (about 10,000) has an article or two of someone getting scammed or attempted scammed. A lot of times they fall for it, some of the most ridiculous stuff, too.
