PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Center City woman was arrested after allegedly refusing to move out of the path of a delivery robot.
The confrontation was captured on video and has since drawn online attention.
Philadelphia police said officers responded to the 1200 block of Filbert Street after witnesses reported a disturbance involving Carolyn Marvin and an Uber delivery robot near Reading Terminal Market.
According to police, Marvin repeatedly blocked the robot's path and ignored multiple commands from officers to move.
She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Marvin tells Action News she was protesting the use of delivery robots because she believes they are replacing human workers.
"I know they're taking the jobs of human delivery workers and so, I have been protesting them whenever I saw them by standing in front of them and preventing them from going forward," Marvin said.
She said she views her actions as protected speech.
Marvin said she has confronted delivery robots on multiple occasions, including a September incident along Broad Street that also gained attention on social media.
Ashley Baldwin of West Philadelphia said she witnessed one of those encounters.
"I actually thought the robot hit her, so my original question was, 'Are you OK? Did the robot hit you?' And she said, 'No, I have to stop this. They're taking over the world,'" Baldwin said.

Causing union problems? Send in the Pinkertonbots.
More seriously, if the delivery companies paid union dues for these robots, the unions would throw their human members under the self-driving bus.
At least she was only a block away from the courthouse/justice building.
I am confused, why didn’t the officer tell the robot “this is a civil matter?” and get back to the doughnut shop ?
I’m waiting for a resourceful terrorist to copy a rolling R2D2-type delivery robot, pack it full of explosives and guide it into a crowd of people. Maybe at a synagogue.
now worries, DFW has no less than 4 drone companies doing airborne delivery. McKinney, Rowlett, Frisco, Richardson all have sky drones now and more are coming tens of thousands more.
So far I have had Blaze pizza twice dropped directly into the center of the patio table next to the pool both times it was dead center which is where I set the drop point. The drone hovers 300 feet up and lowers on a tether a thruster guided drop drone so wind is not a factor at all it sets down where you tell it too and opens up the bottom and lifts away, leaving a steaming hot box of Blaze pizza.
They fly 400 get AGL at 70+ mph no one is messing with it in flight or in hover 300+ feet up that’s far outside of arm throwing distances and shotguns too for that matter. Even F shot at 1500 fps out of a 10 gauge the biggest fastest nastiest load you can handload would struggle to get 120 yards into the sky with even a hope of a couple pellets inside a 30” circle. Plus if you letting off shotgun rounds in a city cops coming for that A$$ quick.
No commie awful is getting behind the locked 12 foot privacy fence and if they did the least of their worries is the drone hovering they would be dodging suppressed 300AAC rounds to the center of mass as we don’t play and castle doctrine is absolute in our great Texas.
Sometimes I wish a commie would FA so the FO happens.
Look in my post history I posted about our DFW area drones and a slew of links to the companies doing airborne delivery. Oh and Nash is here too they integrate air, land and human deliveries.
DFW is ground zero for tech.
“ignored multiple commands from officers to move.”
She was ignoring and not following lawful commands given by officers on the scene.
That’s why she was arrested, her defiant inaction. The attitude that she has towards delivery robots was the reason she was being this special kind of liberal bonehead.
“she taught a course on freedom of expression at Penn”
Probably she is a typical leftist—wants freedom of expression for causes she supports and censorship and intimidation against causes she does not support.
‘wonder what she does for a living.’
Sells buggy whips.
How to Get Past Someone Who’s Always Standing in Your Way
Emotions and the Refusal to Cooperate
According to a new paper by Victoria University’s Michele Griessmair, collaborating with University of Vienna’s Patrick Hippmann (2022), there are many reasons that people decide to interfere with the smooth running of a group. Ironically, they may even begin with the best of intentions until something goes south. What causes the switch to flip?
