A New Hampshire fisherman caught the state’s largest bluefin tuna weighing over 1,100 pounds — smashing a record that had stood for more than a decade.
Brandon McGirl was hoping to reel in anything when he boarded the Out of Line, a Savage Charters NH boat captained by Jamie Savage, on Saturday for an overnight fishing trip out of Rye Harbor on the New Hampshire Seacoast, WMUR reported.
“It was very difficult conditions to try and fish. It was a little bit rougher than we were hoping for,” McGirl told the outlet.
The crew chased the fish for about a mile before finally getting it alongside the boat during the grueling struggle.
With no way to get it on deck, they towed the fish back toward the harbor, where they lifted the beast from the water.
“We lifted it out of the water and immediately knew it was way bigger than what we thought and bigger than anything either of us had seen before,” Savage said.
The catch turned out to be a monster bluefin tuna that tipped the scales at 1,116 pounds — more than 150 pounds heavier than the previous New Hampshire record, set in 2013, the outlet reported.

That's alotta sushi
-
And Sashimi!............
Towing a bleeding tuna into a dock is risky, sharks love an easy meal.
You should have seen the one that got away.
If he put it on ice fast it could go the dinner plates in japan and he would be a millionaire.
That kid’s gonna make some pretty good money off of that
When they catch these fish the freezer truck is typically waiting on the dock when they pull in.
Next stop is Logan terminal E(international).
It probably was in Tokyo within 24 hours.
I am not sure what the going rate is now, but I would suspect is was worth between $15-20K.
We're gonna need bigger chopsticks...........
Looks like they’re going to need a bigger truck.
That fish is worth a fortune.....
That’s a Wicked Tuna.
Haha! Good one!
I was an avid fan of a tv show called “Wicked Tuna”.
The price per pound at the dock was always set by the wholesaler buying the fish depending on the quality of the meat.
TBH, I never thought the grading process was all that scientific.
Having said that, even if it only grades out at $8 a pound thats still over $8k....certainly nothing to sneeze at.
Saw them on their Ridin’ the Storm Out Tour........
One of the other traders was on a charter a bout five years back where they caught a 275 pound blue fin. The boat owner/captain gets most of the money. My friend got enough to pay for the charter for and a little extra. The season only last a few weeks.
They towed it to shore…..Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea- the old man did the same, and sharks destroyed it before he got it to shore.
I I love a good tuna steak, pan fried, broiled, or grilled. No sushi for me.
Congrats to the guy, I hope he makes a fortune from it.

Throw back the little ones
And pan fry the big ones
Use tact, poise and reason
Then gently squeeze them
Saw REO Speedwagon on tour soon after they released the album. They were the opening act for Tower of Power. Helluva concert!
