Apple News Offers Users ‘Personalized’ Voting Guide Filled With Leftist Sources
The Federalist ^ | 10/07/2026 | Brianna Lyman

iPhone users across the country were urged to vote after consulting left-wing media sites on Tuesday.

Apple News’ sent an alert to users that read “This personalized guide has all the information you need.” Clicking the alert then takes user to a page with a “How to vote” tab offering a “personalized guide to casting your ballot.” Users can enter their zip code to find coverage of the elections happening in their area.

Visiting Fellow at the Heritage Foundation Robby Starbuck pointed out that much of the news provided “felt heavily biased in favor of Democrats.”

For several zip codes in battleground areas, the featured coverage highlights Democrat candidates’ accomplishments and opportunities to make history. Meanwhile, Republican candidates are often framed around their association to President Donald Trump and proposed election safeguards are framed as needless.

Apple did not respond by time of publication to questions from The Federalist, such as how it selected its sources for the coverage or whether it uses third-party rating services such as NewsGuard. Notably, Apple has been called out before by media watchdogs as well as the Federal Trade Commission for its preferential promotion of left-leaning media sources.

Consider the coverage featured for voters living in Portland, Maine’s 04101 zip code. The Maine Monitor’s article entitled “2026 Maine General Election Voter Guide,” introduces voters to Democratic gubernatorial nominee Hannah Pingree as “the youngest woman in the country to serve as state house speaker.”

The article then highlights Pingree’s legislative accomplishments and frames Pingree as the candidate who, “If elected governor, she [said that she] would work to protect Maine from ‘the overreaches of the Trump administration’ and work to make housing and health care more affordable.”

Republican nominee Bobby Charles got a different introduction.

What did you expect?

F1 to Apple.
Emmys to The Washington BLEEP.
Oscars to Google.

Big Tech favours the Left, and the Left is doing everything they can to get people to support the fringe.

On Free Republic we are generally not allowed to have open discussions about how deeply left wing Apple Corporation is.

The cult gets all in a tizzy about it. “But they have the best product so I need to give my money to leftists!”

Well, they don’t ever say that last part. Out loud anyways. But it is there.

Well, I always said they have the "least bad product" which is a bit different. Alternatives? Google and Microsoft are no better. Maybe if you have a Dell desktop or laptop running Linux with a flip phone, you are okay. I tried getting a Linux Pine Phone. It was unusable.

We have Apple iPhone in my home, for the better security around them.

Fire away at me. I can handle it.

How many years ago was all of that though? So its said, this is what I carry.

UBUNTU TOUCH(UT) in 2026: it’s really close!
https://youtu.be/8LzTow_X5b4?si=s_i6ORRZ_zdOGkKt&t=218

Its a good video because it shows a lot of UT in action, swiping, etc. UT review fully kicks in at 3:38. He really starts showing swiping and usage at 5:20.

I did at one point have a (hardware) Fairphone but now have a OnePlus. It’s pretty much the same on any hardware you use UT on. I would not have recommended a pine phone. To my knowledge pinephones are for tinkerers and experts - not “off the shelf” “I need it to just work” people.

I do have what I need to be a tinkerer but I honestly can’t stand it. It’s only a means to an end. I’m firmly planted in the off the shelf “just works” camp.

I might recommend first getting a tester phone off of Ebay, maybe use it for a week or three then re-sell it. Heck you might even make a couple of dollars doing that. These are uncommon to a degree so you don’t have to sell for the lowest buck.

On desktop I always recommend Linux Mint. Newcomers aren’t going to go wrong with it. It’s all clicky and minimally intrusive, just install the apps you want in the store click ok and go and never think about it again.

The Pine Phone was all I could afford. I only wanted to be able to make phone calls with it, but no service provider had any idea what it was, and the the user forums were filled with people who weren’t interested in finding a SIM that worked.

You might ask why iPhone if I am low on funds? I got my iPhone 7 for $70. Mostly did the job until recently. I am starting a new contract, and broke down and just ordered a 16e for $350. Unfortunately, 2FA and quick back of the unit photos are necessary for my line of work.

The Musk phone sounds like a fairy tale. I have a dual boot with Ubuntu on my set-up, but still need access to Filemaker Pro at full resolution. So, I do what I can. It is hard to have the computer/phone serve me instead of me it.

Oh, and the Pine Phone ran Mandrake, if you are interested.
