Up Next: A Conversation With Palmer Luckey
Youtube ^ | Sep 24, 2026 | AIAA

Posted on 10/07/2026 7:17:27 AM PDT by Robert DeLong

I've shared several videos of Palmer Luckey, a brillaint man who become a billionaire at age 21.

He was born Palmer Freeman Luckey on September 19, 1992 (age 34) in Long Beach California. He was homeschooled by his mother. He took sailing lessons, and at age 14 or 15 began taking college courses at Golden West College & Long Beach City College to learn more about his intense interest in electronics and engineering. In 2010, he began attending California State University, Long Beach Campus fulltime. In 2012 he created Reality Labs and Oculus VR (Virtural Reality). In 2014 he sold Oculus VR to Facebook for approximately $2 billion (I believe it was 1.9 cash) in cash and stock in Facebook which pushed the deal into the 2 billion value amount.

He worked at Facebook before being fired 5 years later for his finacial donation to Trump's run for the Presidency og the U.S. in 2015.

In 2017 he cofounded Anduril Industried, along with, Trace Stephens, Matt Grimm, Joe Chen & Brian Schimpf. It builds weapon systems that are AI operated and the cost opf prodducing them is far cheaper than conventional weapons the U.S. military is reliant upon, but now has several defense contracts. It sells military hardware primarily to the U.S. Department of Defense (including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Special Operations Command, and Space Force), as well as, allied governments.

The key international customers & partners include:

United Kingdom: The Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy have purchased Lattice software, Sentry Towers, and ALTIUS loitering munitions.

Australia: The Royal Australian Navy and Air Force are major clients for Ghost Shark autonomous underwater vehicles and drone defense systems.

Poland: The state defense group PGZ has partnered with Anduril to locally produce Barracuda-500M cruise missiles, with Poland potentially becoming the first European user of Anduril’s Fury and Thunder aircraft.

United Arab Emirates: A joint venture with the EDGE Group produces autonomous drones in Abu Dhabi.

Kuwait: The U.S. State Department approved a potential $1.98 billion sale of counter-drone systems, though the contract remains unfinalized.

Taiwan: Anduril has completed sales of Altius-600M munitions and is supplying additional systems under a recent agreement.

In 2023 he founded Modreality a gamemaker industry, along with Torin Herndon, which is still active.

This discussion is why he chose to create a defense weapons industry over the other two competing industries he was also considering to get involved in.

Matt Gaetz is his prother-in-law, because Matt is married to Palmer’s sister, Ginger Luckey.

He can’t be that smart.

He’s either not a FReeper or isn’t helping us keep it going.

I’ve never seen a FReepathon missed so badly.

Would be good to see him use is wealth to shutdown Farcebook and personally help Zuckersuck to the curb.

Very true, but I would like to see Zuckerberg hung out to dry by someone. I always hoped Musk would do FB after Twitter but bankrupt Z.

I doubt that Palmer Luckey even has the Free Republic website on his radar. He's a very busy man.

Your statement says volumes about yourself however.

I love Free Republic, but sadly I no longer have the ability to support this site. So, there are many reasons that FR is having issues meeting their goal of maintaining their presence. Another problem is that some of those coming here are counter-productive, for the pirpose of eliminating this website.

He's a very busy man.

Not so busy that he or one of his people never checks the news for him.

FR is still the best news aggregation site on the web.

The only dumb thing I can see that he’s ever done is stay in California. Yes, I know he’s a native. Still, get out and take your company somewhere else.

That may chnge, but also notice that his businesses are not being developed in California. Perhaps when his mother passes, he may make that move to a more business & citizen friendly environment. California is a play ground for any activity that people enjoy, and they at close hand.

He can afford it, and perhaps that is more important to him than the money actually is for him. But everyone has a breaking point. If it continues, as most likely it will, he will rearrange his priorities accordingly. He is not at that point currently.

The saidm I agree with your observation, but after personally having consifered my relocation there, and finding it too insane for my tastes, my mind realizes its bad points. For me, they by far had more influence on me, than their strong points. In other words, it showed me that their futture looked bleak in my opinion. Glad that I listened to my instincts. 😁🤙

Its not just him personally....I'm talking about these

• Costa Mesa, California: The company's headquarters and primary hub for hardware, software engineering, and initial operations.

• Long Beach and Lakewood, California: A major expanding Southern California campus focused on flight testing, R&D, and industrial fabrication.

Get any production out of California.

You may find an answer in this video as well:

Palmer Luckey Wants America to Win>/a>

Perhaps he has designs for Claifornia as well. But I have my doubts that his success will be realized if that is the case.

For those who don’t know their Tolkien:

“Andúril, also called the Flame of the West and the Sword Reforged, was the sword which was reforged from the shards of Narsil in Rivendell. Narsil was originally forged during the First Age by the famed Dwarven-smith Telchar of Nogrod.

It was the sword of Aragorn II (named Elessar when he became king of the Reunited Kingdom), heir of Isildur.”

“”I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dúnadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil’s son of Gondor. Here is the sword that was broken and is forged again!”

—Aragorn to Éomer, in The Two Towers”

So clearly Palmer Luckey and is compadres are Tolkien fans. I see this as A Good Thing.

Don’t know if they still are but he and his wife used to be into cosplay. She made their costumes. They have a baby now so I’d bet everything has changed a little.
