— Eva Marie Saint, the pale, willowy actor who won an Academy Award for her first movie, “On the Waterfront,” and starred opposite Cary Grant in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller “North by Northwest,” has died. She was 102.
Saint, whose acting work lasted well into her 90s, died at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, confirmed family representative Jeff Sanderson.
Saint had one of the most spectacular debuts in Hollywood history, as the love interest of Marlon Brando’s tormented Terry Malloy in “On the Waterfront,” and her first trip to the Academy Awards was memorable too. Pregnant with her first child, Saint accepted her Oscar from Frank Sinatra and smilingly murmured a unique winner’s speech: “I think I may have the baby right here.” (Her son, Darrell, was born two days later.)

102—wow!
Memory Eternal!
A gem. So good in NxNW.
When women looked like women.
Her scenes and dialogue with Grant in NBNW are absolutely classic for the double entendre. 102 is a great run. Also starred in EXODUS with Paul Newman.
From one of my favorite movies:
Kept Sinatra from jumping her lol….
Eve Kendall I believe….
Eva Marie Saint, one of the beautiful, sophisticated, icy blondes that Hitchcock preferred.
Alfred Hitchcock’s said he favored blondes because he believed they made the “best victims” for suspense.
Others include: Kim Novak, Madeleine Carroll, Tippi Hedren, Ingrid Bergman, Janet Leigh, and of course, Grace Kelly.
RIP, Ms. Saint! Your wonderful movies will live on.
RIP.
This scene with Saint perilously hanging on to Grant is considererd cinematically compelling.
In fact, for a while, I thought it was titled, “The Man in Lincoln’s Nose.”
Wow...Her son, Darrell, was born two days after accepting the Oscar award! Funny acceptance speech!
‘North by Northwest’ is one of my favorite classic movies. Highly recommended.
Classic on the scale of Casablanca
I watch North by Northwest often on Tubi channel on Roku and sometimes on my DVD at home. This movie is said to be a pre-cursor for 007 James Bond movies. Hitchcock’s best movie in my opinion. I never get tired of watching it.
Beautifully filmed as well. Martin Landau was really good too.
That’s the legend.....if true.
