KPRC 2 News is using pseudonyms in this story to avoid inadvertently identifying survivors of sexual abuse
HUMBLE, Texas – A Humble mother allegedly used her teenage daughter as a surrogate through repeated sexual abuse, then later participated in the alleged sexual assault of another daughter, according to Harris County court records.
Because the allegations involve sexual abuse survivors, KPRC 2 News is not using the real names of anyone involved. The names used in this story are pseudonyms.
The mother, identified here as “Maria,” is charged with trafficking a child or disabled individual and continuous sexual abuse of a child. Prosecutors allege she helped entice, harbor, provide or obtain a child so the child could become a victim of sexual assault.
Maria’s husband, “Derek,” is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted by a Harris County jury in August of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
According to the complaint obtained by KPRC 2 News, Maria’s younger daughter, “Ava,” testified that she was 12 when her father, Derek, repeatedly sexually assaulted her at hotels in Humble between approximately Christmas 2021 and Easter 2022.
Ava told investigators that Maria left her alone with Derek at one hotel and he allegedly gave her pills. At another hotel, Ava allegedly witnessed sexual activity involving Maria and Derek before Derek sexually assaulted her.
The charging document alleges Maria directed Ava during at least one encounter, paid her after sexual activity and warned her not to disclose what was happening.
Investigators also cited testimony from Maria’s other daughter, “Lena,” who said Derek began propositioning her for sex when she was a teenager. Lena allegedly told investigators Derek described the arrangement as a way for her to serve as a surrogate because Maria could not have children, according to records.
The complaint alleges Maria was present during the first assault and participated in the plan to have Lena become pregnant, according to testimony that came out during Derek’s trial. Lena later gave birth to Ava in 2009, according to the document.
Lena also told prosecutors she subsequently had several more children fathered by Derek, claiming she felt like it was a “job” and that she “needed to get pregnant for her mother.”
The charging document alleges Maria concealed Lena’s pregnancies and presented some of the children as her own, including allegedly pretending to be pregnant and pretending to go to the hospital to give birth to Ava.
It’s unclear exactly how many children of Derek’s that Lena gave birth to and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment.
The allegations came to light after Ava disclosed the abuse to others, according to the complaint. Investigators reviewed a forensic interview and spoke with family members and prosecutors who had previously heard testimony related to the allegations.
The case was investigated by the Humble Police Department, records show. Felony charges were filed against Maria last week, who is not in custody at the time of this writing.

I’m diagusted. Death is too good for those parents. If I was related to thise kids, I’d be going all American Mary on them.
Tragically, sex trafficking and related abuse of children is widespread including among the roughly 200,000 missing children who crossed the southern border in the Biden era. ICE and others are tracked down a small number of those. Some were forced into sexual slavery, often sold by relatives.
This is too common in Hispanic families. Using daughters as payment to coyotes to get across the border.

I have early dementia...why did they use words like “surrogate?” That usually is used in regard to transactional childbirth.
