The 2-repeat allele of the MAOA gene confers an increased risk for shooting and stabbing behaviors

Abstract
There has been a great deal of research examining the link between a polymorphism in the promoter region of the MAOA gene and antisocial phenotypes. The results of these studies have consistently revealed that low activity MAOA alleles are related to antisocial behaviors for males who were maltreated as children. Recently, though, some evidence has emerged indicating that a rare allele of the MAOA gene-that is, the 2-repeat allele-may have effects on violence that are independent of the environment. The current study builds on this research and examines the association between the 2-repeat allele and shooting and stabbing behaviors in a sample of males drawn from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. Analyses revealed that African-American males who carry the 2-repeat allele are significantly more likely than all other genotypes to engage in shooting and stabbing behaviors and to report having multiple shooting and stabbing victims. The limitations of the study are discussed and suggestions for future research are offered.

I find myself questioning religion in general. If you read religious scriptures like the Bible, or even Buddhist Sutras which I have as well, they all treat all humans equally in how we have free will, how we can all equally fall into evil or we all can equally choose to be virtuous.
Yet all scientific evidence now shows how much our behavior is based on race, genes, and other genetics.
So if these scriptures were divinely inspired then why did they not mention that men and women can be strongly influenced by their biology?
Animal husbandry has been understood a few thousand years. Animals have traits that influence behavior. The absurdity would be that the human animal was an exception.

Let’s race over the cliff and blame every violent crime on genetics.
This won’t lead to treatments. It will lead to genetic testing and elimination of the defectives or to chaos as no one is held responsible for their anti-social actions due to their biology. Likely the latter at first and then the former as time goes on.

There have been many claims that genes control this-or-that behavior made over the years, with quiet retractions following. If I had to guess this will be another retracted claim. Even if there is some sort of statistical correlation, the fact that some people are more heavily tempted to sin in a given way doesn’t mean the action is not a sin, or that people cannot choose to act rightly. We make choices all day long, and claiming “my genes made me do it” suddenly amidst all those choices is a lame cop-out. The society that falls for this will be one major step closer to savagery and collapse.
