AI is killing their A+.
More than three fourths of teens use AI to do their schoolwork — but it’s causing test scores to plunge as they rely on the tech “to think,” according to a new survey.
Meanwhile, Google is pushing to increase the use of its Gemini AI on school-issued Chromebook computers — which have become nearly universal in American classrooms.
A total of 70% of teens ages 13 to 17 said they use AI for homework and assignments in class — with 63% admitting they take the shortcut simply “to get answers,” according to a survey by Common Sense Media’s Youth AI Safety Institute.
Far fewer students, just 35%, said they use AI to “fix or improve” an answer they already know, according to the report.
“It slowed my thinking down,” Richard Scott, a 15-year-old from Pennsylvania, told The Wall Street Journal. “When I was in a test and I couldn’t use AI, it was hard to think.”
Scott said his algebra test scores dropped dramatically after he started relying on an AI search tool on his school-issued laptop to spit out answers while doing daily schoolwork.
Though he got mostly B’s throughout the year, he failed his final, according to the paper.

They should be using Notebook LLM, because it can generate tests and quizzes based on the material.
Or just have AI generate the tests.
I would be willing to bet that the majority of teachers in high school are lazy and they are using the same teaching plans that were in place ten years ago.
With such low effort on one side of the classroom…I would imagine that they are seeing that on the other side in return.
[Does AI do DEI?]
Probably not and the students aren’t regurgitating the indoctrination anymore hence the lower scores.

If I were a teacher, I definitely would not assign homework as a grade unless I gave a test on it the minute they walked in.
Absolutely. The more I interact with AI, the more I feel my brain is working on more cylinders. Both ChatGPT and Google have fatal flaws to work around and I’m more aware dealing with their answers than I would have been before. Or I’m becoming a total paranoid.
The simplest solution I’ve found is to take all answers from Google and give them to ChatGPT to analyze. They’re both just as bad in opposite directions and I have to take the result and look for problems but that still gives me better results than I’d get by just working with one or the other.
WILLING TO BET THEY ARE NOT USING THE TESTS I TOOK 69 YEARS AGO, WHEN I GRADUATED HS.
WHEN I WENT TO NIGHT SCHOOL 11 YEARS AFTER HS & TOOK ACCOUNTING CLASSES_—4 YEARS OF CLASSES===EVERY ONE 4.0 IN SCORES.
THE YOUNGER “STUDENTS” WANTED SLIDING SCALE/CURVE. I WANTED 100 SCALE.
MYSELF & ONE OTHER STUDENT BECAME THE “SLIDING SCORE===
WE CONSISTENTLY GOT 98-99-100. THEY HATED US-— DIDN’T CARE==+WAS THERE TO LEARN ACCOUNTING.
CLASSES LED ME TO BECOME SELF EMPLOYED IN 1980 UNTIL 2022.
