Going up! Dubai skyscraper will feature a 2,000ft continuous elevator journey - with double-decker cars to transport more people

If you think the lift to the top of The Shard is a long ride, spare a thought for future visitors to Dubai's Burj Azizi.

The skyscraper will feature a staggering 2,071ft (631.5m) continuous elevator journey – the equivalent of 140 floors – making it one of the longest single lift rides on Earth.

KONE, the company behind the technology, says a new generation of AI-powered, lightweight elevators is helping make such record-breaking journeys possible.

And it said its design could one day carry passengers more than a kilometre into the sky.

‘What was once considered a futuristic vision for cities is steadily becoming reality, with skylines reaching beyond a kilometre in height,’ Philippe Delorme, President and CEO of KONE, said.

‘Multi-use buildings such as the Burj Azizi are leading the way in supertall cities, seamlessly integrating living, working, hospitality, retail, and other services.

‘KONE's new high-rise solutions are the answer to our customers’ ever-evolving urban needs and a remarkable milestone for our industry.’

While skyscrapers have transformed dramatically over the last century, most elevators still rely on the same basic traction principles developed more than 150 years ago.

That poses a major problem for architects hoping to push buildings higher into the sky.

As towers rise, the steel ropes used to lift elevator cars become increasingly heavier. Eventually their sheer weight becomes a limiting factor, with traditional systems typically topping out at around 1,600ft (500m) of travel.

To tackle the problem, KONE has combined a number of advanced technologies including wireless power transmission, wireless data transfer, AI-powered traffic management systems and ultra-lightweight hoisting ropes.

The company says the innovations will allow elevators to travel higher than ever before while using less energy and fewer construction materials.

Renaissance Tower in Dallas (formerly Interfirst Bank and known on TV as the headquarters of Ewing Oil) has had double decker elevator cars since 1974.

No matter how high you build it, the only things you can see are the Persian Gulf, downtown Dubai, and sand.

Be fair. It will probably give you good aerial views of incoming Iranian drones.

Islam does raise an interesting question. Since it does evil in the name of God, one of the worst of all sins, why does God allow it to continue? My conclusion: to motivate people to move as far away from Islam as possible! The new World was discovered because Europe wanted a new path to China that did NOT go through Islamoland.

With Europe now well on its way to becoming consumed by the pitiless monster of Islam where do we go now? Elon Musk is working on that right now. Perfect timing. Perhaps even divine will.

“Hope they’ve got insurance.”

No need. It’s AI powered.

It is also ironic that the main crime Christianity is often accused of committing was in response to Islam.

(the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition)

The muslims controlled Spain for 800 years!!!!!!!! Throwing them out and keeping them out required the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition, otherwise the evil of Islam would have spread over the entire world.

It is just unfortunate for the American natives that the New World was discovered exactly when Christianity was forced in self defense of its very existance to become rather extreme.

Speaking of elevators, I’m a small-town guy and was in a New York City hotel. They had a bank of 8 elevators. To go to a floor, you told a panel which floor you wanted. It told you which of the 8 elevators would take you there. You went and stood by that elevator.

Most of the carnage of the New World was unintentional. Europe brought over smallpox and other diseases which devastated the native populations. One wonders why the New World diseases did not do the same thing to Europe .

I was referring to the forced conversion of the native populations.

This happened because the Spanish had to become ruthless to expel the Muslims after 800 years of occupation. And just at that moment in time the new world was discovered.

Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella expelled the Muslims from Spain in 1492... the exact year the New World was discovered.

A “shard” is a piece of broken glass. There will be plenty of that when the thing collapses.

You posted that garbage trucks had to take garbage away from Burj Kalifa . That it was not connected to city sewer system. That has proven to be false. It is connected

“WHAT IS THE INCIDENCE OF EARTHQUAKES THERE?????’

Good question. The designers must have designed for some magnitude of earthquake.

I think these tall buildings are a bad idea because of their vulnerability to aircraft attacks (manned or unmanned). They must attract the attention of bad guys.
