What Is the 5-Step Seat Belt Fit Test?
Here’s how the test works. A child must:
Sit with their back flat against the seat.
Bend their knees naturally at the seat’s edge.
Have the lap belt rest low across their hips, not the stomach.
Have the shoulder belt lie across the chest and shoulder, not the neck or face.
Be able to stay seated properly for the entire ride without slouching or moving out of position.
If a child fails to meet even one of these requirements, using a regular seat belt becomes unsafe.
Pass a 5-Step Seat Belt Fit Test before they can ride without a car seat or booster.
“Be able to stay seated properly for the entire ride without slouching or moving out of position.”
Yeah, keep an 8 to 12 year old kid in their seat. These peple are delusional
What about states where 15 year olds can drive? They’ll look like ejection seats.
I’m 82. I belong in a car seat. Fortunately, I’m the driver.
It’s quite possible my late grandmother couldn’t pass this ... and I would have LOVED to see anyone try to put her in a restraint.
What if your head hits the ceiling of the car when you use a booster?
