President Donald Trump asked Chinese leader Xi Jinping if he would like to buy American weapons during the communist politician’s three day trip to the States last week, according to U.S. Ambassador to China David Purdue.
The ambassador shared the surprising news during an interview on Fox News Sunday with anchor Shannon Bream.
“President Trump continues to say, ‘Hey, we sell arms to other people around the world.’ He actually asked President Xi if he would like to buy some, at one point,” Purdue said.
The comment came as he defended Trump’s relationship with Taiwan, with Purdue arguing Trump has “already sold 50% more arms to Taiwan than any other president since 1979.” He said Trump’s support for an independent Taiwan should not be questioned, before saying the president is always in deal-making mode, even when it comes to potentially selling arms to America’s biggest rival.
There have been serious questions about China possibly assisting Iran in the ongoing conflict. Earlier this summer, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth testified before Congress that Russia and China were enabling Iran — which Trump later denied.
“I trust them,” Trump said of Xi and Vladimir Putin.
One hurdle to Trump potentially selling arms to China: it would violate U.S. law. China is one of a handful of countries the U.S. has an arms embargo against, with those restrictions ratcheted up following the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre.
In related news, Purdue said there were three “huge” takeaways from Xi’s visit when it came to the Iran war. He said Xi supported “no nuclear weapon in Iran,” an open Strait of Hormuz, and no tolls for it to happen.
Following Xi boarding his flight back to China, the president celebrated the summit in a Truth Social post, saying it was “one of Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A.”
Trump is simply posturing with that statement. Just like Reagan did when we offered to let the Russians into SDI. They don’t need our weapons after all they have our electronics and 600K STEM students in our schools.

Recall when Donnie Brillant idea when he wanted to sell the
our best AF jetfighters to the Muslim Brotherhood Turkish dictator two months ago . The Pentagon had to step in and say no.
The wheels have fallen off the limo at the WH.
Donnie needs to some quiet time somewhere and medically examined.
Got a whole much if rusted HemVes I the deserve can let ya have dogs price?
Before we sink em for Reefs, maybe ya want a boat or two?
How about some rotting Ammo for yer rifles?
Better to sell for profit then have them pirated away anyway?
Is this the Napster problem on national defense?
Reagan wasn’t posturing. He was willing to share the tech AFTER he had a written agreement. The reason? The tech wasn’t really there. Heck we aren’t there yet but the Soviets didn’t know that back then and Dutch using his kind of aw shucks demeanor along with US Intel almost convinced Gorbachev to agree to joint nuclear disarmament.
Call it what you will. I know all of that it was still a negotiation tactic. I still would describe it as posturing. If it cane down to brass tacks I doubt if we would have shared anything.
Some people really need to limit their interviews. They say stupid things for attention. This will probably be Purdue’s last interview as an Ambassador. One way or another.
If true, nothing more than President Trump pounding his chest. Pure bravado.
All they need to buy is one. They copy from there.

WHY would Trump want to supply one of our worst enemies with arms? Makes no sense.
Why are American corporations doing business with one of our worst enemies? Why are we dependent on one of our worst enemies for so much of our supply chain?
Maybe kneejerk TDS is being used as a political lever:
PDJT says "Let's sell china arms."
TDStards, media, dems, RINOs, even MAGA scream "How dare you! China is our enemy! We'll show you, Trumpy, we're going to boycott China." Even the woke corporations join in.
PDJT chuckles and congratulates himself on a job well done.
Maybe Trump should follow General Macarthur’s recommendation and give China a few nukes. /sarc
I wonder what else didn’t happen
I’m thinking pagers for some reason.
