Susan Kokinda: ....that is not Lindsay Graham's regime change, and Donald Trump made that very clear in an aside at the G7 summit.

At the G7, Trump was asked what he would say to Republicans like Lindsay Graham who are sceptical of the MOU.

Trump joked that he would have to talk to Graham, and that Lindsay would be 'in big trouble.'

Kokinda notes that if Lindsay is skeptical about the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), you can only imagine what he thought of Trump's remarks about Syria and Israel

She says Trump's remarks about Syria were not an accident, and that they were a message.

When  Trump said Syria should handle Hezbollah, if Israel can't 'do the job without killing everyone,' Trump directly challenged the imperial architecture which kept the region in turmoil for decades. 'Donald Trump pulled no punches.'

Asked if he was frustrated with Israel, Trump said, 'No,' and that he has a great relationship with Israel. He goes on to note that Israel responded too agressivelly ('vicious' 'too much') to a small drone attack, and said he wasn't pleased at the response.

After suggesting again that Syria should handle Hezbollah better than Israel has, Trump addressed the potential of a FREE Lebanon, free of the Hezbollah threat.

Trump said he's had a great relationship with Bibi, but now Bibi has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon. Trump spoke about Lebanon's rich culture of intellectuals. Trump says of all countries, Lebanon has been treated the worst. And they can't defend themselves, and they have Hezbollah which is a problem for them.

Trump said he's not happy with the way Israel has handled themselves with Lebannon, and with Hezbollah, it should have been handled faster, but it just goes on forever.

Kokinda says, "That is pure Donald Trump,' recognizing that Lebannon, with it's intellectual history (i.e., the Paris of the Middle East), needs to be itself, liberated from the chessboard. Bibi Netanyahu has not done it, so now maybe Syria should.

Donald Trump does not deal with imperial proxies. He wants to deal with leaders and forces that could potentiallly represent their nation's sovereign interests, which is why he devoted more public press time with the Emir of Qatar and the President of the UAE on the first day of the G7 summit, than he did with the other European leaders.

Those Gulf leaders represent the interests of their countries far more than Kier Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, Friederike Mertz, or Mark Carney do.

Trump's foreign policy operates on the principle of sovereignty, that we have our interests, each nation has its interests and you do not mediate relations through the lens of multilateral or supernational institutions.  That contrast  was what Mark Carney was complaining about in the run-up to the G7 summit.

Listen to Mark Carney as he concedes that the old order is dead. He gave two speeches in Ireland the week before the G7, and you could call them concession speeches. Listen to him wave off the very institutions that he spent his life serving:
