A Minneapolis mother is recovering from a terrifying attack inside her home.
Maria Grant sustained severe injuries that left her with six staples in her head. She said she's recovering physically, but the emotional toll is only growing with her attacker on the loose.
About three weeks ago, Grant says she heard a knock at the door just before 9 p.m. and opened it. She says she was met with a hammer.
"He's just hitting me over the head with a hammer, and all I'm feeling is the hits and then the waves of blood coming down my face and he didn't stop," Grant said.
She said the man standing there was someone she knew and worked for her, doing yard work and walking her dog. But that night, she says he was wearing a wig.
While on the floor bleeding, Grant said the man tried to go upstairs where her young children were sleeping with the hammer. She says her dog stopped the attacker from reaching her kids.
"She was biting him," Grant recalled. "And I could see the blood coming out of his legs from his jeans."
Damonte Richardson is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to charging documents, Richardson was arrested after showing up at North Memorial Hospital with bite wounds. He was released before charges were filed.

we ALWAYS look out of a corner window to see who’s knocking before deciding open the door ... if it’s an obvious stranger with no particular reason to be knocking that we know of, we often ask through the slightly opened window what they want ...

Who made the stupid decision to release him from hospital without arresting him
In this case, it wasnt a stranger. But he was strangely wearing a wig.
I long for those scenes in my binge watching horror movies. Only against the bad guys, though.
He was arrested at the hospital. Why and how he walked away after being treated, I dont know. But they have an active warrant on him.

I have a 6-foot fence (with driveway gate) on 3 sides and a 3-mile wide lake on the 4th side of my yard. If someone is at my front door then my alarm bells are going off. I would have my home-defense rifle at hand and yell at them from a distance that I was calling 911.

A few months ago, a scary looking man moved into our neighborhood with a huge bulldog named Ginger. Happiest dog I ever saw, she loves everyone. Her owner is a Huge, ugly man, I’m glad he has the dog to watch over him—and. us.
I talk t o him every time I see him. Being friendly? Not really. But I want him to ike me. Other women in the hood hate him, complain to management, etc.
“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” never occurred to them.

This woman would have been better off had she NOT answered.
