New Jersey Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell — Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s handpicked No. 2 she once lauded as a “voice for the voiceless” — has resigned under the weight of a growing sexual harassment scandal that led to his boss calling for his ouster.
The first-term governor said Caldwell submitted his resignation Friday afternoon, a day after she publicly called on him to step down after an investigation substantiated claims of sexual harassment and “serious repeated violations of state policy, including ethical lapses.”
Caldwell, the former president of Centenary University, was accused of making sexual comments to an aide and using his position to try to score a promotion for his girlfriend.
But in a defiant interview, the embattled pol denied he was resigning over his scandalous behavior.
“I’m not resigning because of the report,” Caldwell told the New York Times. “It’s false. I’m resigning because I don’t want to be a distraction to the administration.”
“I’m supportive of the Sherrill administration,” he added. “I want her to be as successful as possible.”
Sherrill formally called for Caldwell’s resignation in a statement Thursday night, the same day an explosive 61-page ethics report detailing his creepy conduct was released, and gave him 24 hours to step down.
“I hold everyone in my Administration to the highest ethical standard. We all have a duty to follow our state ethics and harassment policy and our Code of Conduct. Anyone who violates these will be held accountable.”

As far as NJ politicians go, what he did is slap on the wrist type punishment. McGreevey was procuring male prostitutes while Governor, Corzine had a girlfriend who was doing business with the state and he had the State Police driving him to his liaisons. Mikie is using the NJSP helicopter for personal business. So the question is, why did they really want Caldwell gone, and who do they want in?
She sees herself as Presidential material and will be scheduling “listening tours”….she’s dumping any garbage she may be tied to before making her move…she doesn’t have a chance but gets her name out there for VP consideration.
similar to my thoughts. she picked him not that long ago. they must be sacrificing him for some reason other then the reasons they are saying.
What it REALLY shows is she either didnt vet him well OR she didnt care about how he is, until now.
