Our low-budget Pittsburgh Pirates have locked themselves in to their first 50% win season since 2018 . . . with three games to go. Even though they are out of the playoffs, they could actually finish the season better than two American League teams still contenting for a playoff spot. Isn't this progress?

Both the Pirates and the Steelers have bad ownership. And I’m a friend of one of the (not involved) Rooneys.
Well, the Pirates had their glory when they walked off against my Yanks in 1960 series which I attended.
I’d like to see a rule change. Make under .500 teams ineligible for the playoffs. Take a team from the other league to fill up the brackets.
The Reds are one of those teams now. In the last 30 years they've been in the post season five times and lost soundly in the first round in all but one season, which the squeaked in a loss. It's a rebuilding century.

I was lucky to grow up in the Pittsburgh suburbs in the late 1970s. A secretary who worked with my mother dated Dave Parker for a time and I met him in her office parking lot once. The irony is that I ended up more of a Penguins fan than a Pirates or Steelers fan because those were the only tickets that I could ever get.
Ooooh! That’s gonna’ leave a mark.
They also won World Series in 1971 and 1979. Still, that's a while ago.
Yeah so they could have a series where Rockies, Mets, Reds, Blue Jays, Royals and Angels battle it out... And no one would watch.
