Bloomberg reported on Thursday, citing sources, that shipping giant UPS was sending a cockpit canopy and weapons bay door to the U.S. from Australia in late May when it was diverted.
The F-35 is a fifth-generation stealth fighter made by Lockheed Martin, and Washington controls the sale of these aircraft only to its closest partners and allies.
A $24 billion sale of F-35s to Saudi Arabia was approved last week, but some lawmakers in Congress have already expressed concerns over the technology finding its way into Chinese hands.

Don’t waste your time trying to find out about this part of the story by clicking the link (when it was diverted). It did not appear the authors tried very hard to find that out. No questions to UPS who was shipping it. Just someone in Australia who said we are looking into it.

Australia should be considered an adversary, if not an outright enemy. Trump should have ended the “Five Eyes” intelligence arrangement on January 1, 2025.
Am I miss remembering, didn’t China hack all the design files along with many other LM plane files over a decade ago? They exfiltrated so much data, the bulk of the R&D for their current fighters was done thanks to LM.
Occams razor says most likely it was just a stupid employee who shipped via UPS, disregarding the fact that Hong Kong airport is a huge regional hub, and Hong Kong is controlled by the CCP
As to China, it has very similar advanced AI software, similar to the USA’s Palantir and such.
As soon as those shipments appeared on a manifest passing through Hong Kong, it would have been flagged.

This kind of mistake was waiting to happen. Absolutely no reasonable way that a weapons platform like the F 35 as a “joint” fighter would be secure.

20+ years ago I had a crate of aircraft blueprints and electrical schematics shipped to Okinawa for a project.
When I showed up on base they were still waiting for them.
By a stroke of luck and some gracious IT people, we were able to located the crate in a secure corner of Taipei airport.
Taiwan had no idea how they got there, or even what they should do with them.
