A North Carolina woman will spend just weeks behind bars for a hit-and-run that killed a star college athlete out for a run.
Q'laundra Hood, 28, was handed just 30 days in jail for a crash that killed 25-year-old Lance Sotelo, with a judge also ordering three years of supervised probation and $765 in restitution, according to Queens City News.

Per the above, the perp didn’t turn herself in until the following morning.
No testing for impairment was done.

Last night, Newsmax was reporting the (white) Afrikaners’ plight in S. Africa since apartheid ended. DH and I were saying that it’s almost the same thing here. We can’t understand how nobody is mentioning that.

Hit and run is one of the most heinous of crimes.
Leave race out of it. There can be no other way, except to have one tie that binds everyone. Otherwise, the deal is off. Low frequency individuals simply can’t cannot be allowed near government, much less be a judge. If this happened to someone in my family, and the perp was let off like this, somebody is going to die. I would love to see a cascading series of AI systems that could replace our current (failed) justice system.
AI system #1 — a local system, no connection to the internet. Load it with state laws and statutes and applicable federal laws (such as the Constitution). Load it with evidence from the trial, as presented by the Defense and Prosecution. Make sure that no outside information is allowed to contaminate it.
AI system #2 — Takes information only from the first system and replaces all information about Names, Sex, and Race. Everything becomes “Person A stated that Person B was decapitated at the scene.” Justice ought not to depend on some people getting away with crimes because they have hormones or because they have dark skin. Have an AI system strip out all such identifying information. It is not relevant. All are equal under the law.
AI system #3 — Take the information only from AI system #2. Based on the laws and evidence, ask two questions: Was a crime committed? Did the Defendant commit that crime?
AI system #4 — Based on previous cases involving similar crimes (hit and run involving death, or whatever), what is the typical sentence issued by a court? That should be the recommended sentence in the current case.
Human system — Have a judge look at the case, the evidence, the verdict from the AI systems, and the sentencing recommended by the AI systems. If the human judge thinks that a legal travesty has occurred, or that the AI system is hallucinating, then the human judge can issue a different sentence — but the judge must explain in a written statement, in detail, why the AI system got it wrong. And higher judges should be empowered to impeach lower judges who reveal themselves as Political Activists who ignore valid AI results.
It means that the perp has likely gotten away with Felony Death by Vehicle (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 20-141.4(a1)): Applies when a death results from driving while impaired (DWI).

My general counsel explained this to me. A great lawyer in private practice makes 7 figures. A good in-house counsel makes $500k or more. A judge in state court is lucky to break $100k.
You get a handful of senior lawyers who still take a judgeship in their near retirement or retirement years, but it’s mainly bad and mediocre lawyers who have no other job prospects who become judges. There are exceptions, but not a lot.
This judge is a DEI loser who probably barely graduated and barely passed the bar.
