I think you mean Hitler was their Man of the Year even though they knew about the camps, and Stalin was their Man of the Year even though they knew about the Gulags and starving Ukraine.
The NYT knew about the Ghettos and concentration camps and still made Hitler the Man of the Year. So did Joe Kennedy since they were all big communists.
