You should vote against socialism, open borders, and trans everything. But what are you voting for if you vote for Republicans?
It’s late. The time for defining the choice is passing in a hurry. Election Day is coming, and some people have already voted. In several states, early voting began on September 18, and at least a few ballots are already in. But what are we voting for? This is where it gets awkward.
The Senate race in Delaware is probably pretty meaningless, and there’s not much reason to believe that Chris Coons is losing sleep over it. But go spend a few minutes at the campaign website of Dr. Mike Katz, the Republican who’s running against Coons. This is from the front page:

Several decades ago, the supermarket chain Ralph’s sold generic groceries that were just labeled with the name of the product: BEER, for example, or COFFEE, a word or two on a white package with a stripe.
That’s apparently what we’re doing this year, and we should probably be paying royalties to Ralph’s for the idea. The website of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee currently appears in black and white with a few little dashes of red at the top and bottom, like they were worried about paying a printshop for extra ink:

The Republican strategy for the midterms is that they’re framing this one as a contrast election: crazy people versus normals, recognizably human Americans versus weirdo socialists and the bizarre space alien creature from Texas who thinks Jesus wants you to trans your kids. In his midterm convention, Trump said that “we went through four years of embarrassment, hurt, harm, sickness, filth. It was bad.” So we’re voting in 2026 to still not go back to the Biden years.
All of that is just fine, as far as it goes. It’s true, and you should vote against socialism, open borders, and trans everything. But what are you voting for if you vote for Republicans? Trump has framed the midterms as a referendum on his presidency: “Pretend I’m on the ballot.”
What does that mean? Is the Iran War on the ballot? We should oppose Democrats, who are about as culturally sick as it’s possible to be, but what is your vote for? What affirmative set of principles and intentions lives inside a vote for a Republican congressional candidate?
As a sign of the empty core inside the oppositional framing, the Delaware senate candidate Mike Katz says on his campaign website that he’ll “support policies that preserve women’s sports as a competitive category for biological females,” which he describes as a necessary approach “because biological differences between males and females can affect athletic performance.” So sex is real, men and women are different, and policy should recognize biology.
Last week, Katz was on the stage with other candidates when another Republican referred to Rep. Tim “Sarah” McBride, a man who wears a dress to Congress, as a gentleman. The hosts of the forum cut his microphone, ending his participation in a public event.
Katz responded by condemning the other Republican for “misgendering” McBride:
You could be forgiven for wondering if Republicans know who they are and what they believe. They’re against Democrats, and they’ll let you know when they figure out the rest.
In 1979, Ted Kennedy was preparing to run for president, becoming the third brother to seek the same high office. But then the CBS News reporter Roger Mudd asked him a simple question: “Why do you want to be president?” Infamously, Kennedy couldn’t even begin to answer. He obviously hadn’t given it much thought.
He just thought he was entitled to it. He wasn’t sure why. That half-conscious grasping didn’t work for him, and that was effectively the end of his presidential ambitions. To run for office, you’re supposed to know why you’re doing it, what you intend to do, and what you believe.
In 2026, we’re not Democrats isn’t much of an offer.

The article is based on a false premise.
Voting against bad things is not nothing.
In fact, it’s what’s important right now.
The Declaration of Independence was a list of grievances - very negative.
Yes, there were positive solutions - but most of them involved establishing safe-guards against tyranny.
Likewise, the Ten Commandments are mostly Thou Shalt Nots.
Well, their analysis undoubtedly reveals that if they allow it to be about something, that something will be Iran and then the GOP will suffer damage from which it may never recover.
Better, then, for them to shut up and stay out of sight. Damage limitation.

The affluent neighborhood to my north has an HOA that has always required tile roofs.
I saw a metal roof being put on one of the houses. I was told by the roofer that Florida law allows HOA covenants to be overridden.
No above average income neighborhood is safe from the machinations of either the Democrats or Republicans.
Why would people be in any sort of rush to buy a house?

When Trump leaves office, the GOP will have no leadership whatsoever.
Only Desantis, Vance, Rubio, Huckabee-Sanders, a number of Republican governors.
Meanwhile the Donks have Miss Hee-Haw, Greasey Gruesom, Kahlua Kamela, Hitlery, etc.
Which is what you get when you shut down a dozen refineries in 5 years...3 of which were under Biden. Fewer places to run crude oil through to make fuel. This means higher prices and tighter supply...especially diesel fuel.
Me..I would ban all fuel exports from the US for 90 days. Watch diesel prices fall then.
Not sure what that has to do with economy. Americans deserve to have secure border (one of government’s primary responsibilities) AND livable economy. Cost of living is unsustainable right now. Waste and debt in government is out of control- has been for many years

This right here exemplifies the problem. The only thing the GOP stands for anymore is defeating conservatives, and the GOP cannot openly campaign on that. “But Paxton has problems with...!!!...!!!” The GOP never in my lifetime has sided with the conservative. The GOP always opposes the conservative. Go back decades. Its always the same formula.
So elections have to be based on what people are “against” while everybody scratches their heads about if I vote republican what am I voting “for?”
“Voting against” and “voting for” are not the same things. Not anywhere close.

Oh, I get all that - and understand that inflation is below what it was during the Biden admin:

What does the average person see when he/she goes to the gas station or grocery store? High gas and grocery prices, especially beef, along with shrinkflation of everyday items. Gas is running ≈ $6.10/gallon in California - no thanks to the California governor’s idiotic War on Oil - Newsom blames high gas prices on “greedy oil companies” and Trump, not his own “green” mandated policies. His idiot voters continue to vote for him.
Who does the average person blame these high prices on? Whoever is in office at that time, i.e., Republicans.
One of my neighbors bought a large home with a beautiful red tiled roof - that was in far worse shape than he thought (home bought “as is”) - he was quoted $130k to replace roof.
Sold the home, “as is” and moved to Florida.
All elections are about Trump until he leaves office.

Total generalization. I’m doing just fine.
I am not having financial setbacks in the Trump economy. I don’t use much gasoline because I rarely leave my part of town, probably drive less than 100 miles per week. I am debt free, with all things paid; so that really helps.
Same here except I only drive about 60 miles a week. Sometimes less.
