Raising chickens as a kid, I never let ANY chicken/rooster think it could beat me. I always put that thought right out of their head.

That is a common thing with other animals such as dogs and horses! And it can be done by being more decisive and consistent than cruel, in my opinion.

Of course, I have two cats and it seems to work differently for them!
