On Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen gave an American-style “State of the Union” address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. During her speech, she proposed that Canada be admitted as an “associate member” of the ostensibly European Union. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney sat in the front row as an honored guest before delivering a speech of his own to the parliament the next day. Taken together, the Leyen-Carney parade of oratorical self-puffery exuded a nauseating bouquet of arrogance, foolishness, incompetence, and stale entitlement.
E.C. President (some say “Queen”) Ursula speaks as if she rules Europe (regularly invoking “our values” when describing a continent of distinct nations, dissimilar cultures, and over two hundred native languages), but European citizens never voted for her. P.M. Carney is the former head of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, and his globalist cronies installed him in Canada’s highest political office just last year. While the central banker and the queen prattle on about “democracy,” neither ascended to the peaks of power in a democratic fashion. They are “elites” chosen by “elites” to represent the interests of “elites.”
Since the Second World War, the United States has heavily subsidized the economies of Canada and Europe, providing for the West’s collective security while permitting one-way tariffs against American producers. This eighty-year arrangement has endured long beyond its immediate post-war necessity, when European manufacturers were desperate to rebuild amid general ruin and the United States worried about losing more of the continent to the Soviet Union’s billowing Iron Curtain.
Unfortunately, this part of Western history does not get an honest treatment in children’s textbooks, so Europeans and Canadians grow up believing that their economies succeed despite the United States

Anecdote as reply: During my times working in the UK and being obviously an American, I would sometimes chat with colleagues who were in fact "subjects" of the Crown. They were happy to grouse and complain (some) and adulate (others), but the notion of not being a subject of their royal was almost unthinkable to them. I suppose from birth they'd learned their place in society under some sort of aristocracy, and so among their goals was to achieve some level of notice from said monarch, such as appointments and minor titles and the like. I still find the mindset strange. This applied, by the way, to some subjects under other north European, non-Brit royals. Something about allegiance to their culture which included a royal family and such. Blech.
What is coming for Canada and Canadians will likely be tied to our American, non-royalist mentality, corrosive as it is and should be to "subjects."
Sometime back, there was a Freeper with whom I tussled occasionally who finally admitted his loyalty to and hope for return of the Bourbon dynasty of Europe, currently with Felipe IV in Spain. His allegiance, though he busied himself with an American conservative forum, was to hold forth on that dream of living as a subject under the Bourbons. not the Windsors, as one would have it. Go figure. Almost as unfathomable as Liz Cheney campaigning for and with Kamala Harris.
Boomer Canucks will keep Carney and the globalists in power. The huge run up in house prices put them in a good position and they want nothing to change. There is no chance of anything changing in Canada until enough of them are dead that the remains of the Boomer generation can be outvoted by younger Canucks who can’t get jobs or buy houses and who have seen their country flooded with immigrants to the point that it is nearly unrecognizable.
By then it will be too late to save the country.

I'm sure this sounds outrageous to people, but Canada aligning itself with an anti-US alliance is exactly what I feared. All the claims that the US is invulnerable are predicated on the assumption that a major enemy cannot build up forces right on our border.
That was the whole basis of Canada. From the beginning, they were the anti-America. Still, I wonder if they really think about it that much now. Probably "independence" from the US is more on their minds than being dependents of a faraway king.

How is Rome going to take over the world? Years ago it was widely believed the EU would evolve into the One World Government ruled from Rome. That’s nowhere near true now. Europe is being run into the shoals intentionally.
