A longtime reporter and a veteran pilot have been identified as victims on board an NBC helicopter when it crashed between two buildings near the scene of a deadly bus collision in Los Angeles.
Heartbroken colleagues identified reporter Eliana 'Eli' Moreno and pilot George Marciniw as the two people tragically killed when the news helicopter went down in a parking lot in Chatsworth just before 7pm on Tuesday night.
A pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, also died at the scene. Another was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.
The NewsChopper4 was flying over the area between two warehouses at the intersection of Nordhoff Street and DeSoto Avenue, near where an SUV crashed into a bus earlier in the night, when it suddenly lost altitude and plunged to the ground.
Two people had been killed in the bus crash, while six others were left injured, some of whom were in critical condition.
The chopper appeared to have crashed next to two shipping containers and several vehicles that were parked in the area, causing a massive blaze that threatened four vehicles nearby.
Moreno was a veteran aerial reporter for NBC4 Los Angeles and Telemundo, who had been flying in news choppers since 2010 - covering police pursuits, wildfires, traffic and major local events.
She began her career in the air after graduating form Chapman University in 2010, where she studied broadcast journalism and political science.
Moreno had worked KCAL 9 and KCBS 2 before joining NBC and flying aboard NewsChopper4 around 2018 or 2019.

Hotshot how?

Dangerous but exciting job. I wonder if the pilot had a medical emergency?
I try.
You’re right.
Aviation ping...π₯
Naaah, you can hear the “Low Rotor Speed” alarm going off in the live video recording. Plus some major vibration that the gimbal live camera mount could not correct for. Something failed in the rotor system that prevented a successful autorotation???
Hard to criticize the other side for pissing on graves when one does it too.
