Lefties Don’t Understand the Market, And They Never Did
American Thinker ^ | 15 Sep, 2026 | Christopher Chantrill |

Our educated class is the class that lives furthest from the market economy.

ast week I had some fun here with the economic nonsense of our DSA kiddies. For instance, DSA Wunderkind Mamdani proposed for New York City:

- Free and fast city buses

- Rent freeze

- Free universal child care

- Public groceries

- Taxing the wealthy

Today I propose that Adam Smith’s notion of the “invisible hand” is the economic equivalent of Albert Einstein’s E = mc2. Because Smith changed our understanding of the world in the same way that Einstein did.

The idea that the point of prices and markets is to transmit information from and to millions of actors in the market economy and coordinate their actions is a mind-blowing human discovery. To understand why, let’s ask Grok to “describe the understanding of markets before adam smith.” Its brief summary is:

Pre-Smithian understanding typically:

- Embedded exchange in moral or political order rather than treating markets as a coordinating mechanism

- Viewed trade as zero-sum (between persons or nations)

- Identified wealth with gold, land, or the prince’s treasure

- Expected the state, church, or custom to set or correct prices

- Distrusted merchants, interest, and unlimited profit-seeking

See, back in the day nobody had Any Idea. Just like our lefty friends today. But today lefties still know that:

- The market should be subject to political control.

- The employer makes his profit at the expense of the worker.

- Wealth is the “accumulation” of riches.

- Government should control rents and wages.

- Businessmen, tech lords, financiers are all “oligarchs”.

What does it take for educated people to hang onto such a magical belief system? Shamans?

It all makes sense when you grasp the fact that our educated class is the class that

They do understand the market, they just want to be in control of it, and get rid of the people who are currently in control.

The left does not believe in wealth creation. They believe there is just one pile and some get a bigger share at the expense of others. That is what gives them the victim mentality. It also justifies their failures: not their fault. They are victims.

And they drive the same way. They turn hard left and ignore that there is a deep ditch as soon as they run off the road. And then they blame the wreck (if they survive) on the people they stole the control from.

Rather obvious why we’re 40T in debt.

A trillion is a big number, but these millions and billions are adding up.

This is why any “conservative” who opposes Trump’s $5k dividend is actually a leftist.

Oh wise one, Explain to me how a dividend is feasible when the country is 40t in debt.

Prove to me this money is not going to be added to the debt. Prove to me that this money is not going to be “printed”
Explain to me how the federal budget is 2 trillion in the red this year, and why this money, if it exists presently, should not be used to cut the deficit in half or more.

Fiscal Conservatism is apparently being a leftist around here.

IMO: the leftist leaders know quite well how reality works but since that leads to prosperity and freedom, they promote the opposite.

To this end they work hardest to keep knowledge from the followers and general populace and to spread myth and fear.

The debt occurred during a rebellion against our country.

Certainly with Obama, and likely prior to him.

We don’t owe the debt you reference.

Look up the 14th Amendment.

14th Amendment

Section 4
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

He’s not going to hand out money from taxes. Taxes are debt.

Trump will take these dividends from Tariffs, oil Profits, and other natural resources.

Who owns our natural resources?

Hmmmmmmmmm?

Note the words ILLEGAL AND VOID.

“all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.”

I think they are saying we are, and have been in a rebellion by the Left in the United States for about 90 years, ever since the Progressive ideology took over the government.

Therefore, since we have been in a state of rebellion, when Constitutional order is restored, the US government is not responsible for the debt which was accrued during the rebellion.

An interesting thought. I do not think the Supreme Court will agree.
