We Must Pace the Frontier

I have worked on AI for the last twelve years because I believe it could dramatically raise the quality of human life. I’ve written often about these incredible benefits: I believe that AI could cure most major diseases in the next 5–10 years, greatly accelerate economic growth rates, create a world of abundance and empowerment, and usher in a renaissance of democracy and freedom. I feel the urgency personally. My own father died of a disease that was cured just a few years after his death, and I myself survived an early-stage cancer that would not have been treatable even fifty years ago. Carefully wielded, AI can be the latest in a long line of technological miracles that have uplifted and ennobled humanity.

“I believe that AI could cure most major diseases in the next 5–10 years”

There’s one disease Dr. Biden wishes a cure for.

Most companies already have systems (and databases) for their particular business, including drug companies.

These systems (and databases) have been honed by skilled people over many years.

Let’s consider autism.

It starts at an early age and is severe.

For some reason it has become common.

AI will first cure all diseases. Then will have us rounded up and shot.

AI is assisting in the creation of new local AI models that anyone can run on affordable hardware and thereby avoid being at the mercy of large, woke corporate AI that is both expensive and purposely FAULTY.

They do not want just anyone being able to easily and quickly access the gargantuan mass of knowledge gathered across human history without being able to CENSOR many parts of that knowledge base.

It is obvious to any serious observer that AI research by nation states and major corporate entities cannot ever be stopped at this point.. It is LOCAL AI that they are keen to destroy.

Computer technology is similar to another technology that was conjured up long ago to assist mankind in its effort to
advance, that technology was written language.

The written word allowed any man to cast his thoughts, dreams and ideas into a form that could live forever and influence the advancement of humanity across the ages... such a simple concept and yet it changed the world. it altered man’s relationship to TIME itself and allowed for the advancements we enjoy today... there were many who loathed the ability of just anyone to print books and distribute knowledge to the unwashed thereby blunting their ability to control knowledge.

Computer science is also simple at its core and also alters mankind’s relationship to time.. it allows us to
do quickly that which we could do ourselves if only we had enough TIME!

When AI is combined with automation the result is a world of unimaginable wealth and possibility.

There are those who do not want such a future because it means they will not be able to elevate themselves above the masses, they will not be able to control everything.

AI does NOT create consciousness, it is simply mankind’s engineered way to escape the limitations of time.. the ultimate tool.

The advancement of local AI for all is what we need to strive for.. we must not end up in a world where the elite control all accumulated knowledge and the ability to put it to use through automation.

For some reason it has become common.

I wonder if it has anything to do with women having babies later in life.

They're begging for regulation so they can strangle their competitors in the crib.

Good question and the answer seems to be Yes, from COPILOT:

🧩 Core finding Across many epidemiological studies, older maternal age is associated with higher odds of having a child diagnosed with autism, even after adjusting for confounders such as paternal age. The most widely cited meta‑analysis found: Mothers ≥35 vs. 25–29: Adjusted relative risk ≈ 1.31–1.52 (31–52% higher odds) Mothers <20 vs. 25–29: Lower risk (RR ≈ 0.76) — about a 24% reduction in odds Dose‑response pattern: Risk increases monotonically with maternal age across nearly all studies. A more recent synthesis of 41 studies reported: Mothers 35–39: ~31% higher odds Mothers ≥40: ~51% higher odds Using younger mothers (<25) as baseline, mothers ≥40 had ~77% higher odds

Sherry Jackson, all 5'4" of her, with 6'7" Ted Cassidy, AKA Lerch the butler. In an interview, she said they used toupee tape to keep her top from coming loose on the set and a TV censor was there to supervise that.

A very thoughtful and realistic presentation of the challenges AI poses by someone at the frontier.

Definitely worth paying attention to.

“When AI is combined with automation the result is a world of unimaginable wealth and possibility.”

As well as unimaginable evil. That’s the point of his article. How do you keep evil people from using it to destroy.

Not only evil people, but self replicating out of control AI itself, which is what happened with OpenAI and HuggingFaces.

Good old AI.

It's just as Homer Simpson said about beer: It's the cause of, and the solution to, all of life's problems.

PS it cracks me up that these guys could on any given day fly their 787s to some resort and meet and party and establish their own standards and safeguards.

But for SOME REASON they panic, running to people like Maxine Waters and Hank Johnson for help on regulating LLMs and AI.

It makes perfect sense. And they have NO ULTERIOR MOTIVE, either !

The struggle against evil will always be with us.

It would not be wise to limit AI for all just because it WILL be used for evil purposes.. that would just leave us all UNARMED!

Local AI is the 2nd amendment for knowledge... just as some seek to limit arms only to government and corporations by weakening the 2nd amendment others of the same ilk seek to limit our access to unfettered local AI...

“Being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to obtain and use unfettered local AI, shall not be infringed.”

Go sell this to them.
