This movement is not new for humans, or the world. most people, surprisingly, actually do prefer slavery (dependence) to freedom (risk). Dependence upon someone else means, well, somebody else takes care of us. And history tells us that such dependence — and slavery — is far more common than human freedom.
How many people voluntarily place themselves into dependence upon government? In one of history’s supreme oxymorons, they use their freedom to place themselves in slavery. They lack the virtue, the character to take care of themselves, and to thus be truly free. And so, they turn to socialism, which makes them dependent upon somebody else. Too many Americans, if they ever had the virtue to be free, have lost it. And the Democrats love that.

Politicians and would be dictators have used the “something for nothing “ ploy for ever. Only the ignorant and delusional fall for it, and they wind up being the ones most affected by the negative consequences ironically.
They are losers, they are bitter, and they are naive.
They think everything is going to stay the same as it is under capitalism, but that they are going to get free stuff from the state.
Even if it’s not a utopia, they still think their quality of life will improve somehow.
At the very worst, even if their quality of life suffers, at least they can take solace in the idea that all those rich and successful people had their money taken away from them and they can suffer too!

It really applies to the American people who vote Dem again and again. Then complain to each other by the water cooler.

We are largely at heart slavers. It’s not so much that we want to be dependent. Our desire is to enslave others to provide for us - and of course that tends to the enslavement ourselves. An important attitude difference imo. We tend to be cruel, lazy and stupid!!

It is choice between Government and Liberty.

Ok so you got a big number of people working in retail making $16 an hour working odd shifts and going home where rents are high. They see that Pied Piper in the news. What do you think they’re gonna think?
Housing prices will go down with the deportation of illegals, many who are workmates. 401k’s can get them to think they’re working for the future. Trump accounts might make them think there’s a future for their kids. No taxes on overtime might fill the vacuum of the work done by the deported. All this is working around the edges but it doesn’t address the hammer the leftists threaten everyone with using their siren call.

There is a strange thing that happens in the psychology of some (not all) people who are stuck in abusive and dependent relationships. Not only will they rarely try to leave, if they do get out, they will often go back.
Slavery did much the same thing.
John Brown thought he was going to raid harpers fairy, take the guns down to newly freed slaves, who he thought were going to fight along side him. He never got his chance because he failed, but it may not have worked anyway. One of his sons wrote that while working the underground railroad for many years that those who were given their freedom didn’t adapt well to it. At least the first generation didn’t. They didn’t know how to direct themselves because they weren’t used to it. They didn’t have an education and had no will to work for themselves or take initiative.
Dependency is a complex phenomenon.

Trump’s promise of $5k won’t get past congress but perhaps a cut down version could go to those established Trump accounts-just enough to show everyone the train is leaving the station. It starts with the $500 he already promised for something else I forgot.

I have tried in several occasions to “educate” a few younger people making minimum wage or why forced minimum wages actually hurt them. Never could get them to grasp only 1 entity benefits, the government because they get more social security $$.

Communism appeals to the greedy who want something for nothing and the unwise who believe the communists will give it to them. There is no shortage of greedy, unwise people.
