Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., said he is willing to consider raising the SSI payroll tax rate and increase the amount of income subject to the tax. The tax applies to the first $184,500 of a worker's earnings.

Trust funds are projected to be able to pay full scheduled benefits until the third quarter of 2034, when continuing income would cover 83% of scheduled benefits.

Raising the payroll cap - but NOT the benefits cap is just another round of redistribution.

It’s funny, but for the “uniparty” stuff? Wealth redistribution has become the one truly bipartisan policy now.

Both sides, for about a decade now, have adopted the idea that the poor need more of my money.

I have a somewhat radical proposal, as I near eligibility range: Offer me a buyout.

I’m well versed in actuarial tables, the math for COLAs, and I’ve also managed my finances in a manner that doesn’t lean on social security for retirement planning. Of course - anyone can also easily see what you (and your employers) have paid in.

Rather than simple early/traditional/late claiming? Add a buyout option. Gets me off the benefits book - and I feel like I can put a lump-sum payout to better use anyway. I would only ask for some tax-based special cases — I’m already structuring rollovers and preparing for RMDs, so I’d want a special tax case for a lump-sum buyout.

I can do my own B/E analysis — and I’m even willing to cut the SSA a break (to a limited extent) so it’s advantageous for the fund generally.

But, if we’re going to change an entitlement into a full-on welfare program? Buy me out.

The shortfall should come out of the general fund. That “borrowed” from the SS fund to “invest” in some cause-of-the-day some politicians wanted to fund w/o raising taxes or risk losing the next election.

Find those politicians who voted to allow this and garnish their estates and those of their heirs until they have nothing.

Cheating future SS recipients because you’re immoral and lacking in economic vision should hurt politicians. Good and Hard!

**throw the illegals and the fakers off ...
problem solved!**
That would help us out big time. It’s unrelated but it is related. People just won’t say it.

**that money would have compounded over your lifetime**
You mean 2%? Ain’t good enough.

**The 1040 tax doesn’t get refunded in your old age.**
Either way it’s taken out of the economy/market-not good.

Anyone here think the under 45 year-olds(b4 millenials) should not get an SSI check when they’re old? The youngest baby boomer will be 80 in 2044. They’ll be 100 in 2064. It’s up to us to fix it. We’ve been too selfish of a generation.

**Just allow people who want to opt out to do so**
Nope-eliminate entirely over time. No cash payouts(lump sum) as they may not live to collect.

I have a better idea. Cut me a check for every dime I paid in since 1974 less what I’ve received. I’ll never take another nickel.

Making the bite of the PONZI scheme worse down the road.

SS is a scam and just theft from workers and always has been.

Real leaders would figure out how to ethically disentangle the scam and wind it down without screwing people who paid in too badly.

“Means testing(my favorite).”

I don’t think “means testing” means what you think it means.

“Means testing” is actually defined as taxing, lowering, or eliminating SS benefits from people who have 401Ks or other savings or income. So, in general, it’s taking the most money from those who contributing the most.

I maxed out my contributions to SS since I was out of the Army. I will already receive far less money than what I put in.

“Means testing” will result in even more theft from me to those who did not contribute as much money.

I’m just so glad I could work hard and save my whole life so losers and free riders can live off my efforts.

The moral basis for me to get Social Security is mainly because of the school taxes I’ve paid.

The school tax-Social Security link could be made explicit. It gets rather complicated, so I have not worked out formulas.

Kiddies might have to pay .1% of their adult income for each $1,000 of their public school cost funded by property taxation. The monthly amounts for 2035 might be based on 2034 tax amounts so a percentage can be calculated.

Social Security might pay a high percentage of a senior’s school tax. The percentage and monthly payout amounts for 2035 might be based on 2034 tax amounts so such a percentage can be calculated.

theyneec to have stricter standards for illegals and disabled as well.

I would be willing to forego Social Security if I don’t have to be forced to take RMDs from my 401k.

Millennials need to be told they’re getting screwed in the bluntest of terms so that those younger will catch on quicker.

A pedal to the metal thrust to all 5 ‘solutions’ should be referred to as the Final Solution. Watch the left squirm. The over 45 year olds can start over and the present money they see in their SSI accounts will give them a head start in the 20-25 years they have left employed. Trump accounts planted the seed.

“cut off. Start with homeowners”

I’m not in favor of cutoffs.

I am in favor of fairness insomuch as possible and practical.

A cut in your Social Security benefits might be made to recoup over your (IRA distribution) expected lifetime the mortgage interest deduction savings you got.

Confiscate congressional pensions to shore up social security. You were responsible for it’s maintenance

Very fair. We’ll still have to get past the pushing grandma over the cliff crowd.

**The shortfall should come out of the general fund.**
It would emphasize how government doesn’t work. Make everyone pay.

**1967, some college students were collecting social security benefits after their fathers died.**
They got a check until age 22. Reagan lowered it to 18. Left made it look mean. Should a 25 year old be on his parent’s health care? Another worm.

must ‘grandfather’ those in already near ending their working lives (50 or 55?) Allow everyone else to take their ‘lockbox’ funds to invest or whatever.

DOGE THE SPENDING - that means no illegals and fake recipients of government cheese.

They won’t do a budget - I will say Trump is trying more than any president or Congressman I can recall.

There is no “fair” way to redistribute income.

There will always be winners and losers—and it will never be “fair”.

The winners are robbing the losers.

If you change the names the game is still the same.

The winners still rob the losers.

Stop trying to make it look reasonable.
