There was this horrible crash a LaGuardia earlier this year:
"The March 23, 2026 collision at LaGuardia Airport involved Air Canada Express Flight 8646. A commercial regional jet (Bombardier CRJ900) collided with a Port Authority fire truck on the runway, killing both pilots and injuring dozens of passengers, while the two firefighters in the truck survived.
The FAA is moving to fire two air traffic controllers who left the LaGuardia Airport tower about an hour early on the night of the March 22, 2026 crash that killed two pilots.... their departure left only two controllers to handle twice the usual traffic volume during a period when the airport was dealing with an unrelated emergency."
I don’t see how this crash could be blamed on Air Traffic Control.
At LaGuardia, if I remember correctly, the controller gave permission for the firetruck to cross the runway and the pilots paid with their lives.
For me, even after the light turns green, I still look to see if anyone is running the light.
