Abandoned LA mansion turns into party free-for-all — and wealthy neighbors are furious

A million-dollar mansion perched along Los Angeles’ legendary Mulholland Drive has become anything but a dream home — with squatters and trespassers turning the unfinished property into a late-night party pad.

The abandoned house at 7711 Mulholland boasts sweeping views of the city, but neighbors say its biggest attraction after dark is the empty property itself.

“It’s just right under the Universal Overlook, and people come at night, use it to party,” said Ted, a local resident who lives near the property, told FOX11. “There’s graffiti all over it, beer cans, and everything.”

Neighbors say the calls for help have been piling up while the mansion has deteriorated into an eyesore and nuisance.

“The house on the top of the hill has been an issue for a while,” community member Paul Stern told NBC Los Angeles.

The home was last sold in 2022, according to Zillow, which describes the property as a three-bedroom, three-bathroom mansion spanning more than 4,000 square feet.

Its estimated market value is now upwards of $1.47 million.

Photos show a luxurious glass room and deck overlooking Los Angeles — a jaw-dropping perch that would be the envy of any Hollywood Hills homeowner.

But now, the property is covered with graffiti and several of the home’s windows are gone. Property records show Walking Media Inc. as the current owner of the property, NBC reported.

The legal and judicial system in LA enables - if not encourages - squatters, who have all the rights.

Even if the home owners wanted to do something about it, they’ll face a tough, uphill battle in the courts of LA - but be required to pay property taxes and any security and upkeep on the property.

This is an area that holds fund raisers for the likes of Democrat mayor and do-nothing Karen Bass. Just ask the folks in Pacific Palisades how it’s going...

That site doesn’t look safe. The house was probably abandoned for good reasons quite apart from the current zombie apocalypse in LA.

Yes, yes, yes, California is permit hell. But that site should be put under the microscope for engineering review. Not that California or LA are competent to do that well.

It’s a great place to set up a telescope. Not a full blown observatory because of the potential for landslides, however.

Speaking of face - that woman has had so much work that she is like a mannequin or an AI construct in the accompanying photos. The photos are so recent that they make me think this is not a real news story but a publicity ploy by the woman ostensibly in peril (She is modeling herself at a lot of identifiable landmarks a month before she is sentenced? Yep, Cali prices are crazy. Also, at that address, that house should be 3x the price. The lack of sewer, kitchen, etc. (and probably permits!) explains the price, however...

Anti-squatter tactics are well known. A newer one is “anti-squatter renters”. They are legal tenants who move in next to the squatters and make their lives unpleasant. They play very loud music when the squatters are trying to sleep. They cook odoriferous food they hate. etc.

Most of the acreage on this property is vertical.

However, legal property boundaries and standard acreage are always measured on a flat, horizontal plane parallel to the horizon, even on steep hills or mountains. So the property is far bigger than it would first appear.
