The federal government plans to start excavation over the next two weeks on a massive triumphal arch across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum said Thursday, launching a controversial project championed by President Trump.
Construction at the site is expected to take two to three years, with an intense 20-hour-a-day, year-round work schedule, the National Park Service has said, meaning the project could wrap up toward the end of Mr. Trump's second term.
The 250-foot-tall arch — which will be clad in granite and topped by three golden statues plus an observation deck — is slated for a traffic circle near Arlington Memorial Cemetery and across the river from the Lincoln Memorial.

The arch in the drawing is about 80 feet high. What happened?
Trump should have Masons as consultants on this project, otherwise the feng shui of DC might be totally thrown out of balance.

I am well aware of the infamy of Arch of Titus (which is but one of many Roman celebratory arches). The fact that Arch of Titus has to do with the anti-God sacking of the Temple by the foul pagan Romans has zero to do with the point that the fact such an arch long predates the French, which was the poster’s assertion.
Indeed, contrary to the poster’s assertion of such an arch being “French”, the Romans, Hittites, Babylonians, Greeks, and Egyptians had similar structures.
And you missed my point entirely: To say that such arches predates that in Paris misses the point. Such arches as “triumphal” evoke the worst of imperial ambitions, regardless of their relative antiquity.

Nor is it correct.
Yes, some arches are like Titus.
Others are not. For example, the Soldiers and Sailors Arch in NYC was built to memorialize the the brave men who fought against the Democrats in the American Civil War.
When one installs a characteristic edifice, it carries the burden of all those it invokes. Just because there are exceptions does not negate that burden.
IOW, it’s a bad idea, intent notwithstanding.
