You know, we're still pretty fresh off the Cuban missile crisis that was still only like 15-20 years before, so it's a tumultuous period ... it was really scary.

I suspect he has a vague understanding of the Cold War and has fixated on the Cuban Missile Crisis as primary cause for society’s dread of nuclear annihilation that overshadowed modern history before the USSR’s demise in 1990.

Reynolds is usually rather astute, industrious and has small businesses outside of acting so I won’t write him off as an idiot. Just not wise enough to remain silent on subjects he’s not up on.

I was in grade school in Phoenix,AZ during that time. We had drills where we would all get under our desks. The fire alarm would sound and we all dove under our big wooden desks. I remember thinking: “what good is this going to do in a fire. Shouldn’t we be getting out of the building?”
