he 2026 midterm election will mark one of the most important inflection points in our history. The results will determine what groups and theory of governance direct our country going forward. The stakes could not be any higher regarding the future of our nation and most of its citizens. Most alarming is nobody is safe if the radical left’s vision of America wins. Today’s Democrat candidates are leading a political movement that is geared to promote socialism and a rise in tyranny in our country resulting in a significant loss of freedom and control over their daily lives for Americans.
The issues dominating today’s politics are identical to the fierce debates pre-dating our Founding. They have continued through our history regarding the proper role of government in democracy. The Founders’ preference was for a limited government role in society. The Founders desired a government that recognizes the roles and rights of sovereign individuals while acknowledging these rights are derived from a higher power. Included in this vision is a system of government that also promotes the pursuit of equality between people and the rule of law.
Life will be grim for most if the increasingly radical Democratic Party is allowed to win. In the future, we will confront a country with rising levels of illegal immigration via open borders, higher taxes, runaway inflation, rising energy costs, and a decreased level of national and personal safety. We will experience the creation of an ever-increasing powerful surveillance state in conjunction with Big Tech leading to the death of personal privacy.
The left in power will continue to divide us by gender, race, religion, and political affiliation status with identity politics the dominant ideology of the day. The Judicial system will be increasingly subverted, along with the rule of law

I think that the GOP could counter by enumerating the ways in which the Big Beautiful Bill has benefited the middle class.

Agreed. I’m thinking the lure of the DSA is that it’s different: If something is not working out, let’s try the exact opposite.
That’s faulty reasoning, and usually leads to chaos.
One would think the GOP would have a solid, long-term plan to combat this. But evidently not.
Hoping people are smart enough to realize the democrats are emphathizing socialism & that’s the last thing we need. Just because they don’t like everything that Trump is doing, is not a good enough reason for TDS. I’m Republican & I can’t say I would agree with everything he’s doing either, but most of it is better than nothing at all with democrats. Not voting if you don’t like either one is no solution, either.
I’ve said before that there is no longer any political solution to our nation’s ailment. I stand even more firmly on that position.
It will be resolved by an unforeseen spiritual revival, or a hot civil war, resulting in tens of millions of deaths.
The problem with the BBB was that it was temporary. VERY temporary. Republican’ts cannot seem to pass permanent tax relief, EVER.

Yes, this is already happening. The recent college grads and those about to graduate see this. It’s clear too that as AI takes over the entry level jobs, it will gradually creep up to take the higher and higher level jobs as well.
Meanwhile, President Trump is going full steam ahead on more AI all the time.

Yes, that would be a good place to start, especially since the cost of living is out of control and everyone is feeling the pain.

I’m hoping they won’t be like 1932 (an actual midterm year).
I’m also hoping they won’t be as bad, at the House level (minus 40 seats) and the state level (tons of GOP losses), as 2018 was. Whether it works out that way or not is a tossup. 2018 wasn’t bad in the Senate thanks to a favorable set of elections; 2026 doesn’t have that luxury and the map is unfavorable.
There’s no chance that 2026 will be 1932-style disastrous for Republicans, no matter how much GOP politicians (ones with safe seats for themselves) seem to WANT that outcome so they can stop focusing on actually governing (which they suck at) and can instead focus full-time on fundraising — which they also suck at, compared to Democrats — but they are still much better at that task than they are at doing anything to help the American people.
Losing House control is practically certain at this point; losing the Senate not quite so much; the GOP must hold all of their close seats (like Maine) and ones which shouldn’t be close (Texas, Ohio, Alaska, Iowa....), but are close — or worse.
There’s 9 weeks left to avert disaster by getting our voter motivation/turnout to match or exceed (ha) the massive turnout which will be coming from the left. The $64,000,000,000 question is, how? They’ve done damn near nothing for 2 years but will surely get it together in 60 days. Of course.

Since there was a time in the past, 50 years ago, when things were worse, we shouldn’t be concerned about things being bad now? I’m sure that will be very reassuring to young voters. SMH at the logic around here these days...

The out-of-power party tends to win the mid-terms. It is not unusual that Trump and the Republicans lost in 2016 and that we look to lose in 2026.
Nevertheless, we have reasons to be hopeful.
First, even the pundits give us the edge in Senate races. We look to pick-up Michigan and maybe also New Hampshire. The Democrats look to have the inside track in North Carolina, but that race is tightening.
A lot of races are “within the margin of error;” but if we keep our net loses to a minimum, we’ll keep the Senate.
On the other hand, it’s entirely possible we, net, break-even or even, net, make a gain. And this is entirely in our hand. If we GOTV, “get out the vote,” we’ll do fine. We don’t even need enthusiasm. All we need is a sense of duty.
As Johnny Rico put it in Starship Trooper, “A citizen accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body politic.”
Second, we’re down - but not by a whole lot - in the generic congressional ballot. If he can move this deficit from minus 5 to minus 3, we might make up our loses in seats elsewhere in the country, with our gains in states where we re-drew the lines.
Realclearpolitics has a deep dive in polling prior to midterm elections and the outcomes in recent midterm elections.
In 2010 (the year of the Tea Party), we picked up 63 seats, and in 2018 (the first Trump backlash) they pick up 41 seats. In those years the margins in the generic congressional ballot were 9.5 and 7.3 points in favor of the winning side.
In two other recent midterm, we pickup about ten seats each, and had margins favoring us of about 3 points.
If we lose the House but keep the Senate, they’ll gain subpoena power and they’ll probably impeach Trump one or more times. They’ll also have Trump over a barrel when it comes to budget matters. (Those really awful deficits of Trump’s first term were from the second years of that term, when the Democrats controlled the House.) But, we’ll still be able to get our nominees through the Senate.
If we lose both the House and the Senate, Trump will not only be a lame duck, but the Democrats will hold up all nominees for the possibility of winning the Presidential race in 2028 (the way Mitch McConnell did with Obama’s nominees).
I will not deny that the state of the economy is the central issue (especially as it impacts the outlook for the future of our younger citizens). “It’s the economy, stupid” has never been more apt.
But there is a battle over truth vs. lies that transcends everything - and President Trump has been fighting it - mostly alone - on so many fronts.
He makes mistakes, but he has really come through for us - risking everything to call out the lies and speaking the plain truth - every rich and powerful would-be tyrant - ever would-be evil empire - every corrupt institution - they all want him dead.
But when he calls out the fake news and deadbeat allies and lying politicians - he is trying to teach us (especially young men) how to tell truth from lies - how to bravely call out the liars.
As bleak as the outlook is for young men, I have to believe that some of President Trump’s message is getting through to them.
The only hope for fixing any of our problems is for young men to learn to recognize the blatant lies they are being told - and to be outraged by it - not to the point of violence - but to the point of championing the truth and fighting back the way POTUS does.
Pick any of the big lies:
“Trans women” are women”
“Securing elections is racist”
“Crossing our borders illegally is not a crime”
“Economic growth is destroying the planet”
“Federal spending is necessary and can’t be cut back”
The list is endless but it is so obvious they are lies and need to be rejected out of hand.
Liars need to be crushed and it was always the job of young men to do that - we have to turn our young men into fighters.
Yep. We have a mix of Big Government and Crony Capitalism. If we had a true free-enterprise system, “Capitalism” would not be the boogeyman it is for young people today.
Well put; Trump has his faults and he does a lot of cringeworthy things. But he also accomplishes a lot that Bush Sr. and Jr. never even tried. I’m reminded of the howl of criticism Grant got during the Civil War for being a drunk, which he was. Lincoln’s response was that Grant was the only general who won battles and if needs be, he would send him a pint.
Just like Obama and Clinton..the President will veto and EO everything, just like they did.
To that point, Trump has issued more EOs this term than Obama did in 8 years. Remember how we responded every time Obama did? What happened to that outrage to ruling by edict? Who is actually doing their job passing things?
Expect 2018 again.
Trump has no new midterm strategy but KEEP all his 1.6 Billion in donation for himself just like in 2018.
Plus Trumps just said blame the GOP house reps not HIM.
