Another characteristic of a persistent Socialist/Communist regime is the presence of a common enemy. (Note I said persistent, not successful.) Having or creating a common enemy gives the regime a scapegoat for the difficult living and economic conditions that usually exist. The absence of that external enemy leaves the regime in the position of having to explain why economic conditions in the homeland are in the toilet.

I was with him until he collapsed all religion including Christianity and all politics into his cauldron of simpletons seeking certainty. Basically he’s an agnostic.

I believe they both believe they can use to other to seize absolute power and then just discard the other. I also believe Radical European leftism is tied at the hip to the Democratic Party/DSA in the USA and both will be destroyed by radical Islam which has declared war on the world and have made serious inroads into their goal of a world controlled by Sharia Law.
True enough about communism, but unclear and unconvincing concerning Islam. Latecomers to modernity often adopt radical ideologies. Throw religion, and especially fundamentalist Islam, into the mix and you get what we have now. But blaming it on 1820s France seems like a big, big stretch.
Very similar stuff to separatist religious groups all over America. They believe false crap and nearly isolate within their group.

There are two kinds of people: Those who are willing, even excited, to provide for themselves and their families and want only to be left alone to thrive; these kind of people seek out challenge, and accept risk gladly for reward. Then there are those who are terrified of the thought of failure, who want someone else to ensure that they always have enough, and will provide security and deal with any risks or challenges. Communism appeals to the second type— it frames an ideology based on victimhood. The first type people are the oppressors— they did not gain their confidence and abilities fairly, they cheated you to gain it. You must band together with others like yourself, then you can defeat them and force them to provide for you.
