Target has found itself at the center of controversy over a children's Halloween costume. It has since removed it from its website, issuing a public apology after critics called the product's imagery racially insensitive.
The image on Target's website showed a Black child modeling the costume in a pose that critics said evoked racist imagery associated with the Jim Crow and minstrel eras, according to Forbes. Such depictions historically relied on demeaning stereotypes and exaggerated portrayals of Black people.
"As a company, we know we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry," Target said in a statement to Forbes. "The costume is offensive and should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer available for sale. We know this is especially hurtful for our Black guests, team members, and partners. Removing the costume is an important first step, and the company is looking closely at how this happened and what needs to change to ensure this won't happen again."

The bad publicity will make it a crowd pleaser.
Target? Cancelled during the bathroom debacle.
So they were off Target I guess
Targay, doing it’s best to offend everyone.
Pictures or it didn’t happen...
There are pictures, if someone wants to post them. I hate clowns, so one of you post it.
The blue-haired protester crowd is triggered by just about anything. I say that we keep triggering them any time the opportunity arises.
They are easy to defeat b/c they are curled up in a ball sucking their thumbs when confronted with idiotic things like a Halloween costume:
Boycott! Take your shoplifting somewhere else.
I remember the ad. It wasn’t racist at all. It was just a crappy costume with an even crappier mask.
That looks like a creepy clown costume to me. Right up there with Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. Why they think it’s offensive is beyond me.
That crowd has absolutely no sense of humor or sense of fun - and wants to make sure everyone else is as miserable as they are - they actively look for anything they can to label “offensive” - unfortunately, the big corporations play along with their delusions, lest they be labeled racist.
The racism was using a black child to model the costume.
Have not been in a Target since that occurred.
Stupid histrionics over nothing
Nobody would have said a word.
OH NO!
They couldn't do that!
Black models must out number White models in all advertising campaigns.
“The racism was using a black child to model the costume”
Yeah that’s what I was thinking.
Having said that, a certain ethnicity will always have a grievance about something.
Even electing a black as President to two consecutive didn’t satisfy their howls of America being a racist country so it’ll never be enough.
So why even bother?
