Once again, Florida leads the way in conservative government.
Apparently, "fascists" down in Florida don't want taxpayers to be purchasing the neck tattoos and Disney World tickets for people who are on welfare.
The takeaway here is that the other 49 states ARE paying for the tattoos and video games for welfare recipients.
This is a real thing that goes on everywhere in the United States.
Except Florida.
From Fox News:
Florida is the first state to impose sweeping new limits on how welfare cash can be spent, blocking recipients from using cash-assistance benefits loaded onto EBT cards for purchases like tattoos, theme park tickets, video games, vaping products and other items not generally considered 'basic needs' under a plan the Trump administration is urging other states to emulate.
Florida's cash-assistance program, known as Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), is funded through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. It is separate from SNAP, the food-assistance program, though families may receive both types of benefits through separate balances on the same EBT card.
The Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families (ACF) determined Florida's updated TANF plan to be complete Thursday in a letter sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis and obtained by Fox News Digital. The letter praised the Sunshine State governor for putting 'common-sense restrictions' on what it calls inappropriate, luxury and non-essential purchases.
So, if you're on EBT, we not only have to pay for your Kool-Aid pineapples, because you need to eat, after all, but we also just give you free money with no strings attached that you can use almost anywhere for any reason? Tattoos? Vapes? Grand Theft Auto?
The governor's press release announcing the change also cites 'Psychic and fortune-telling services' among those purchases that will be prohibited.

You want that crap , GET A JOB
OMG....THESE WERE COVERED AT ONE TIME? Geesh.
I didn’t know you could use cards for that sort of thing. I would have guessed such things would be banned outright.
That this was even allowed in the first place is what’s disturbing.
ONE second! 😄
Under a plan Trump is urging on other states, Fla is the first w/ sweeping new limits on how welfare cash can be spent, blocking recipients from using cash loaded onto EBT cards for purchases like:

<><>vaping products
<><>and other items not generally considered ‘basic needs.’
“This is a real thing that goes on everywhere in the United States.
Except Florida.”
Still allowed in the other 49
Times are tough. We are poor. The family is starving........So I think I’ll go get another tattoo.
What about getting their nails done?
Isn’t that ALREADY illegal???????
Why do we need to keep passing new laws that say to follow existing laws???
Not only are they covered, in most states, refusal to accept payment is a crime or at least a fine.
And if they cover them up during the interview?
Gettin’ their nails did should fall under the “and other items not generally considered ‘basic needs” category.
Instead of creating a growing list of things you can’t buy how about just stating what is allowed- food- bread, eggs, milk, cheese, meat, ... AND NOTHINGS ELSE
Did any of them see this coming?
Like everyone else.
Very.
How long can people stay on these ‘temporary’ programs?
