Efforts to bring power back to a notoriously-scary town in Indiana were halted after crews were shot at overnight following devastating storms.
After violent weather left thousands without power for around two weeks, efforts to restore electricity to Gary were briefly paused thanks to a shooting on August 15.
Utility workers with NIPSCO were scouting on Rutledge Street when gunfire erupted just after midnight, hitting their Jeep.
'I heard something like a big explosion, boom! Then I heard two more, boom, boom,' resident Kenneth Lewis told CBS News.
While neither of the two employees were injured, the company vehicle was struck twice, including one bullet which became lodged in the back of a headrest, the outlet reported.
'Let me be clear: this type of violence is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the City of Gary,' Mayor Eddie Melton said in a press release.
'These crews are here for one reason - to help our residents and restore electricity to families who have already endured days without power.'

80% black, 10% white.
Went from a population of 178,000 in 1960 to 67,000 today.

Well…the shooting didn’t help.
Upon some digging, this sounds more like a story of underinvestment meeting a bad storm.
Workers found 291 utility poles and 44 transmission poles needed significant repairs or replacement before service could be restored.
There were also 27 source outages at substations which are key portions of the electric system that also must be repaired and replaced.
Let em rot in the dark.
The Bears are looking at north Hammond, which would be out of range for gunfire from Gary.
Matt Walsh did almost a whole show on this last week. It included the obligatory clips of locals suggesting that this problem would have been fixed by now if it was a white city. Matt pointed out, with specificity, that almost all of the city’s leadership is black, including the Chief of Police who assured that the attempted murder of the utilities workers was an “isolated incident.”
The explanation is in the demographics.
Black or African American: ~76% to 84% of the population.
White: ~9% to 11% of the population.
As always, not willing to take responsibilities for their self-inflicted pathologies.

During the (last) Baltimore riot, a guy, on camera, stabbed a fire hose firefighters were working with.
It makes their night work much easier no cameras.

These power outages seem to keep spreading for some reason.

The important thing is all of those icky blue collar factory jobs went away to the other side of the planet.
