If you can come up with a better reason for why they stuck “ whose parents are Egyptian immigrants,” in the middle of their declaration of how those rascally republicans are trying to peel off his “South Asian voters” I am all ears.

Let’s look at this again

“Republicans see an opportunity to try to peel away South Asian voters from El-Sayed, whose parents are Egyptian immigrants, in a race that pits him against former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.).”

I see that as saying that the same as “The GOP sees an opportunity to peel away South Asian voters from El-Sayed, who is Egyptian and cannot claim ethnic solidarity with these voters voters.”

Can you not see this possibility? Keep in mind that today’s reporters are pretty bad writers.
