For the roughly 15 million college undergraduates in the United States, the benefits of pursuing higher education include better employment prospects, greater social mobility, and even longer-lasting marriages. Research released last year, however, finds that at least one important life outcome — political ideology — is heavily dependent not merely on the decision to attend college, but also on the particular subjects students choose to study.
The paper, authored by Israeli academics Yoav Goldstein and Matan Kolerman, used survey responses from nearly 500 American colleges and universities to isolate the political impact of students’ choice of college majors. Those who predominantly take classes in humanities and most social science disciplines became substantially more likely to self-identify as liberal over the course of their college years; those earning economics and business degrees, meanwhile, largely resisted that drift, adopting more right-leaning stances on economic issues like taxation and socialized healthcare.

In the last 50 or more years we have all heard of or ourselves complained about progressive indoctrination in k12 and universities.
That there has never been a mass movement to take over education by conservatives is very likely the greatest failure of ourselves in the last 100 years.
You don’t fix education by voting in some other guy.
You fix education by taking the job.
where would the STEM grads fit in this picture?
This makes sense because the majors that are more difficult mean you’ll just have a hard time finding employment but the easy majors mean you’ll not be able to find employment at all.

I’m skeptical. Are those liberally inclined more likely to pursue social studies and those conservatively inclined to pursue business and STEM?
It might be that liberals have an aversion to math and don’t wish to pursue math heavy curricula like STEM and business. Or, then perhaps there’s a deep relationship, are some people simply unable to grasp math so they are inclined to liberal arts?
This is just another restatement of the old question: ‘are those who exercise more likely to be healthy or are those who are healthy more likely to exercise.’
