Down in Florida, the DSA may have scored one of its biggest victories. They nominated State Rep. Angie Nixon, who defeated favorite Alex Vindman, who outspent her by a lot. It proved once again that you don't underestimate the DSA because they will get their voters out.
Let's check out the events in Florida:
Far-left State Rep. Angie Nixon handed the progressive movement a surprise win against deep-pocketed Alex Vindman in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary Tuesday night.
With nearly all precincts reporting, Nixon had handily defeated Vindman, a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a top witness in President Trump’s 2019 impeachment, by 12 points, 56% to 44%.
Nixon’s victory over Vindman despite his name recognition and being vastly overspent in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary came as a surprise precisely because of where it happened.
Progressives or those aligned with the democratic socialist movement have racked up primary victories elsewhere this cycle, but almost all of them came in blue or purple states.
The DSA is here to stay and that's all you can say.
Vindman stuck to the playbook. He got those valued endorsements from key Democrats like Mark Kelly of Arizona, Jack Reed of Rhode Island, and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, as well as Florida state Senate Democratic Leader Lori Berman. He looked like a winner, especially having made a name for himself by being a part of the first Trump impeachment. He was a military man, so he had all the credentials to come across as a strong force in a Democrat primary.
Nixon was the underdog all the way. She was elected to the Florida state House in 2020. Vindman chose to skip debates and let the money and endorsements get him over the line.

It looks like it is clown show time here in Florida. I hope there are debates. She can explain how great things are in Cuba.
Vindemann can go right to Hades.
Just watch... just like clockwork, the media will be trotting out a poll showing Nixon winning, or at the very least, highly competitive in the Florida senate race.
” He got those valued endorsements from key Democrats ...”
Which shows that ‘endorsements’ are basically worthless.................

It seems that vindmen should be in prison.
Is the DSA highly organized in Florida or did Nixon just get all of the black vote?
So traitors dont make good candidates?
Angie Nixon defeated Alex Vindman in the Florida Democratic Senate primary with 56.1% of the vote to Vindman’s 43.9%. Nixon secured approximately 705,192 votes compared to Vindman’s 552,774, overcoming a significant fundraising disadvantage where Vindman raised over $16 million to Nixon’s roughly $1 million.
Key County Margins Nixon won decisively in Duval County (+60 points) and Orange County (+36 points), while Vindman carried Sumter County by 34 points and Sarasota County by 25 points. Despite Vindman spending 36 times more on advertising, Nixon’s “People-Powered” message resonated across most of the state’s counties.
Candidate Votes Percentage
Angie Nixon 705,192 56.1%
Alex Vindman 552,774 43.9%
May have been a few Republicans voting too, to make sure the weaker candidate (hopefully) made the ticket.
I think, outside of the media, that everyone knows what Alex Vindman is. The democrats may get the Socialists out to vote, but they aren’t going to get reasonable people to vote for Vindman.
Septum ring theory stands.
Reminds me of another Nixon who ran in 1946 as a Republican for a seat in Congress from Southern California against Jerry Voorhis, a five-term Democrat incumbent. Nixon was the underdog, but Voorhis took his re-election for granted and was upset.
In the FL Democratic Senate Primary it looks like there were about 1.25 million votes cast between the two candidates. In the Republican Senate primary there were about 1.62 million votes between the three candidates. Florida has a strong Republican voter advantage if they can get good turnout.
Thank you for the post!
It is clear that the DSA knows how to organize and get out the vote. To underestimate or ignore those skills can mean defeat for not only “Established” Demorats, but Republicans as well.
I saw first hand how the OBS, Organization of Black Students take over the student government at the University of Chicago in the fall of 1972. I think black undergraduate enrollment was only 5-10% of the student body. But they were well organized, nominated candidates for each position and got out the vote. Very few students voted in the elections and most who did were part of the OBS. As an aside I was elected to represent graduate students from I believe the social sciences. I stood next to a voting booth and as students came out of a large lecture hall, I asked them to vote for me. Many did and I won by a landslide!
Excellent observations!
I think any “debating” from Ms. Nixon would be along the lines of the “Mao-Tse-Tung Hour” from the film “Network.”
I was in Florida the week before the primary. His ads blanketed the airways, interrupting my enjoyment in bars and restaurants. And every ad touted his treason against Trump, giving normal people zero reason to vote for him. He mentioned only Musto in his ads, never Nixon - arrogantly presumptive.
Meanwhile black voters from the homeless to nursing homes were trotted out to "vote black" like they always do. Not one of them had any idea what she thinks.
I really should have placed a bet for Nixon on Kalshi or something. She was a massive underdog.
