Dashcam footage captured a harrowing multi-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in the southbound lanes of the 170 Freeway that launched one vehicle over the center divider.
The incident, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol, occurred around 5:30 a.m. just south of the Oxnard Street exit.
Details remain limited, and it is unclear exactly how the crash unfolded. However, dashcam footage appears to show a dark-colored pickup truck with its right turn signal activated suddenly swerving left into the carpool lane and striking a smaller sedan. The impact sent the sedan rolling over the freeway’s center divider, where it landed on its roof and slid into oncoming northbound traffic.
Moments after the pickup struck the sedan and it began to roll over, sparks flew from the vehicle as it made contact with both the roadway and the center divider.

The truck looked like a Diesel truck. If so, then hello to getting smacked by a 4 ton vehicle. So, 8,000 pounds hitting what looked no more than a 3,000 pound vehicle.

Perfectly clear once you see the vid - this wasn’t a case of the PU driver having a heart attack and jerking the steering wheel leftward as I first thought before watching it.
This was just a jerk.
That pickup truck driver needs organs removed.
PU truck not paying attention. Signaling to be changing lanes to the right, but traffic in his lane abruptly stops.PU Tried to avoid hitting car in his lane by veering left, but directly into a car that was trying to pass on the left(victim car seems to have been in blind spot of PU at time of impact.)
Verdict: PU driver fault. Not driving in safe manner. Did not anticipate abrupt stopping of cars directly in front of him. Unaware of traffic around him. Tries to avoid collision in reckless way. Should get license suspended. And lots of citations.
A medical eval. , drug and alcohol testing, and mental health eval. before reissuing license.
IMHO.
Zactly right.
Great analysis. Truck in fast lane, but not paying attention or trying to change lanes at wrong time. Realizing that the traffic was stopped, and unable to change to the right, the driver chose left.
PU driver went right over the solid double line, too. Clearly at fault. He was tailgating and probably looking at his phone, to boot.
Should have his license permanently revoked.
That heavy truck tossed the little car like it was light as a feather. The car driver didn’t have a chance.
I hate driving in the HOV lanes and passing cars like that for just this reason. I’ve often seen people illegally cross the double line.
KTLA’s report says that everyone involved in that crash walked away without needing hospitalization. What a miracle!
Looks like the truck driver maybe reached for something (spilled coffee? cell phone?) and jerked the steering wheel.
I hope no one was injured, especially whoever was in the little car that went flying. No reports on injuries.
5:30 am? Rough commute.
Here is an article showing the huge blind spots of a pickup truck!
Front blind spot ranges from 12 feet to 24 feet!
