A Texas high school teacher was reduced to tears and broke down in front of his class when he realized the seniors he was teaching couldn’t complete a writing exercise.
Darius Williams, a teacher for Houston Independent School District’s Wheatley High School, said he couldn’t get through the first class of the second day of school before his students’ poor literacy skills were too much for him.
“I just finished a three-hour class, and I literally broke down in the middle of class,” Williams said in an Instagram video during his lunch break on Tuesday. Williams, a New Education System (NES) Career and Technical Education (CTE) staffer, said he gave his class full of seniors two paragraphs to read and asked them to complete another sentence he had practically filled out for them, but was left stunned when they couldn’t finish the task.
“I basically completed the sentence for them, he said. “These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and they couldn’t fill in four words. Four words!” exclaimed Williams.
“I gave them the scenario, we annotated together. I gave them the answers before we even had the problem and they couldn’t do it. I don’t know I simply don’t know where the problem is,” he said frustratingly.
“This is only day two, and I have seniors who simply cannot read and seniors who cannot write. They cannot write,” Williams cried out.
“Our young black men, our young brown men, our young black girls, and our young brown girls,” Williams said as he began to sob before ending the video.

🚨 OMG. Terrifying development as taxpayer funded public school students in Texas are bussed to an ISLAMIC CENTER so they can see Islam up close and personal
The Muslims who run the mosque are ecstatic with how many kids are showing up to possibly be converted 😠
This shouldn’t be happening in TexasThis shouldn’t be happening in AMERICA!!
If you’re gonna bus kids to religious locations, bring them to a church to learn what this country was BUILT ON 🙏🏻
We are a Christian nation. Repel Islam.

Oooh, oooh I know know! (waving hand incessantly), "All of them"
They more than knew; they advanced them despite the illiteracy.
They may be illiterate, but they know how to vote, and what else counts?
Same here, Duval County school in the 60’s. One teacher was regularly cited as teacher of the year. Unfortunately, he was also a chicken hawk and was eventually murdered by two kids he picked up.
What counts is that the leaders in the teachers unions have a very good chance in life.
The real national disgrace is the parents, teachers and school systems that let them get away with this. How can you expect students to learn to read and write when they can't even talk in plain English? They've invented some type of jungle speak that they all approve of when it should be considered unacceptable in an education environment.
I knew a bunch of those in "middle school". They learned English right quick ... all sorts of monosyllabic Anglo-Saxon words ... not sure they knew what the words meant, but they sure could spew them out. Learning more polite conversation came slowly.
