Chuck Todd on Thursday sadly criticized the poor optics of Anthony Fauci pleading the fifth amendment over a hundred times during his Senate hearing last week. Ironically, Todd during his appearance on CNN's News Central seemed to have forgotten the incredibly poor Covid optics of his own namely his July 1, 2021 finger wagging shtick in which he angrily denounced, with misinformation, those in the audience who still hadn't gotten the Covid vaccine.
First let us look at Todd's criticism of Fauci pleading the Fifth at the Senate hearing.

Taking the Fifth when you already have a blanket pardon doesn’t look good.
He can’t be prosecuted for anything he did. Only for lying now.
By taking the Fifth he is, in essence, saying that he’s unable to answer questions without lying.
His lawyer advised him to take the fifth, and rightfully so, even though it looked bad.
There are 50 states and several territories that are not covered by Biden’s blanket pardon. Not to mention any foreign countries that we have extradition agreements with.
He can still be prosecuted all over the USA and world............

He was not pleading THE fifth... he was pleading FOR a fifth.
Not sure what, but perhaps whiskey, bourbon, tequila... Now, we’ll never know.
It was the only thing the lawyer could do. If he let his client testify under oath, then anything he disclosed could be used against him in a state court.
So he opted for the ‘bad look’ but ‘technically safe’...........

What exactly is Chuck Todd’s area of ‘expertise’ such that he feels qualified to dictate other peoples decisions and activities?
You don’t have to take a pardon. By pleading the fifth he rejecting the pardon. You can’t have both he must testify.
Yes. He needed to do what he did. The best the GOP could expect out of the hearing is subjecting Fauci to the public questioning. Not sure if the contempt referral will go anywhere, but will see.
If a pardon means he can’t self-incriminate himself then he should not be able to use the 5th to avoid answering questions for things which he has been pardoned for already.
He took the fifth to avoid a perjury trap. There are damn few people that couldn’t be lured into a perjury trap, unless they were experienced attorneys, guilty or not. That’s one of the reasons you should never attempt to defend yourself without a lawyer in court, guilty or not. There is no evidence against him that will hold up in court, unless he stumbles.
If he admits he lied, he’d be covered by the pardon.
But if he lies now, he’d not be.
According to a guy on Newsmax tonight, there is a strong court decision to the effect that if you refuse to testify after being pardoned, you legally “abandon the pardon” and it is null and void.
If so, you’d think that would be like kryptonite for Dr. F, yet his lawyers told him to take the 5th. They can’t be ignorant of this decision, maybe they were just banking on the Republicans being to wussy to actually do anything with it.
